Monica_in_Switzerland
What are your favorite plays for early elementary, and what film adaptations to your littles do best with? I don't mind bawdy humor for my littles, but would mind too much doom and gloom.
freeindeed
A Midsummer Night's Dream is one that my ds(then)8 enjoyed.
happyhomemaker
Mine loved A Midsummer Night's Dream as well. They also liked Macbeth, Hamlet, The Tempest, and Henry V. Macbeth and Hamlet might be to gloomy for you though. We watched parts of the Kenneth Branaugh version of Henry V. They loved the parts where the princess is trying to learn English, the St. Crispin's Day speech, and some of the battle scenes. The battle scenes were a little gory so you might want to prewatch it. ETA if you haven't already, look into the Bruce Coville Shakespeare books. The illustrations are beautiful!
Farrar
We've read all the Bruce Coville versions. Those are my favorites. But we've also taken the kids to the Shakespeare Theater many times - we'll go see whatever, but Midsummer's was the most successful so far, though they enjoyed Julius Caesar as well. We've also performed shortened versions of the plays.
