Ack!! House Blessing tomorrow - gotta get the house in order

My priest called last night and said he was going to be in our area doing house blessings on Sunday afternoon, and could he do ours too. On one hand it's good to get this done early (last year I think we had ot wait until March), but OTOH my house is messy. We haven't done our usual Sat. cleanup since New Years. Besides that - several kids rooms are a danger for walking in. When a priest does a blessing he goes int oall the rooms (including bathrooms) and swishes water at each of the corners of the room. He's not looking down for legos, books, and toys - he's looking up.

Forget the dirty dishes in the sink and the dust bunnies - I need to make sure the floors are picked up at the very least so our priest doesn't break an ankle.

ds was sick most of this week. I feel like I might be coming down with something (we'll cancel if I actually do). DH has a project he committed to doing today - and he's out. Ugh. I need to avoid the boards until we get a grip on this stuff.....

I just finished decluttering ds room- which is the worst.

Need to finish picking up stuff in Master bedroom and bathroom

both dd's need to pick up their rooms - girlie clothes EVERYWHERE.

okay, just looked at college boys room - oh my!! oh My!!! Yes, must be picked up - and WHAT is that smell!???!!!

After that we'll have ot do the usual household Sat. cleanup... bathrooms, kitchen, vacuum, etc. etc. Thank goodness we cleaned up the basement and vacuumed for our NewYears party. It doesn't get used much and will be just fine for a house blessing.

That's so cool! Our church doesn't do that, but I knew a gal a few years back who had her pastor come and pray over their new house. I kind of wanted ours to come and do that to our new house, we just moved.

May you be blessed!

I have a bit of cleaning to do ahead of time, too .... decluttering in the depths so Father can actually move around in the rooms we use partly for storage. Our situation is a bit different than yours in that it's small town and small parish, with most people live within 10 minutes of the parish, so we can schedule almost whenever.

I'm sure it will be fine!! Let us know how it goes. :)

He'll do the basement since one of the kid's bedroom is down there... also it's a finished basement. I don't think he's ever done the garage, but at the old house he did blessed our swimming pool. That was the first year in about 10yrs I didn't have any hassles with the pool!

I'm getting a grip on this. My room is much improved. I'll see if I can get dh to clean the bathroom tomorrow if necessary. I have a meeting at 3pm in DC. I know I'll be wiped out when I get home. So, it's now or wait until tomorrow after liturgy.

The thing is - all this stuff really needs to be done anyway. It's feels good to get it done. I still have Christmas wrapping paper in my bdroom. LOL. But, why do I always wait until house blessing time to de-clutter the bedrooms!!??

Thanks Phoenix - you should ask your pastor if he will come and do that for you. Doesn't hurt to ask.

I'm liking the idea of moving "spring cleaning" (like I ever did THAT, lol) to "house blessing cleaning." A once-a-year thorough going over just before the blessing. This year we have until mid-March before Lent starts, so it could be a spring cleaning, too.
