I am thinking of trying out ES with my two oldest boys. They are in 2nd and 4th grade. These isn't really a level of ES that fits both of them. Do you think they cover a wider range than just what is listed? For example earth science is 2nd-3rd. Would a 4th grader do ok with this or would it be far too easy?

It would likely work for your dc. I have my 4th and 7th graders using ES Logic Biology for grades 5 & 6. It's working well for my 7th grader, but it has just a touch more writing than my 4th grader can handle. So he's doing the readings, experiments, sketches, and a notebook page.

I have an average 5th grader and an above average 2nd grader. I have ES Biology for both grammar and logic stages. If it were me, I'd probably go with Logic stage but have the 2nd grader do less. We're on animals at the moment. The grammar program has the kids learn about several animals a week, reading a one page Kingfisher first animal encyclopedia spread page and writing one fact about the animal. I have my 2nd grader do a little bit of that, but he does the diagrams and experiments with his brother from the logic stage program. He doesn't do the same readings, but I get him lower level reading books from the library to cover the topic and a few animal. So basically I guess what i'm saying is I'd have the 2nd grader do everything but the reading in the logic stage, but make up your own notebooking pages for him with library books for each week.

I would worry that the grammar stage program wasn't enough for a 4th grader.
