cdrumm4448
DS and I both can't take any more of CC's Essentials. The IG for grammar is too wordy and the writing is too formulaic. By the time we get to Essentials in the afternoon, his brain is shot. Nothing sticks. He's in 5th grade. I looked at FLL4, which I like because it's scripted, but is it enough? I also looked at Growing With Grammar but can't decide which level. He wants something independent (which FLL is not, but GWG is. I am slowly going insane. Any suggestions are appreciated! Mystie
Take a look at Our Mother Tongue. The explanations are written clearly enough it could be self-directed. I used it for teaching grammar to 6th-9th grade kids. It teaches punctuation, grammar, and diagramming, but not writing.
SunnyDays
I would also recommend Hake. We're finding it to be a very thorough program.
