Mandylubug
So my boys that are 9 and 10 started Elementary French 1 today and I am quite pleased with how well they did. However, I must state I took five years of french. I am not fluent but not "green" either when it comes to French. Anyway, I know it states Elementary but I did think it seemed sorta dry for a younger elementary age. I had considered it for my girls as well but being that they are only 7; I don't think they will pay attention long enough to get anything out of the lessons. I do think it seemed appropriate for my boys ages. Anyone else use this program?
SunnyDays
Mandy, can you share a link to these? I haven't seen them but would like to take a look!

Mandylubug
You know, the more I read about it I wonder if it is supposed to be a college level student learning the language for the first time? It went well for my boys and I think we will stick with it but still makes me ponder the age it was assumed to be used with.
Joshin
It's aimed at college students and adult learners. It's part of the Open Course initiative.
SunnyDays
It does look more like a high school or college level course. I saw this blurb further down: Completing this course and Elementary French 2 will require two semesters or roughly thirty weeks at the university level. These courses have also been used successfully at the secondary level where they can be extended to cover two years or more. So that's how I read it. Then again, if it's working for you, that's all you need!! :) If you ever hit a point where it is too much, do you have access to Mango Languages through a library?? It's online and free as well. I think *I* may have to go through that course. I'm like you, took French all through high school and I know the knowledge is all floating around my brain somewhere, I just have to capture it again!! (DS, alas, rejects my love of the French language and wants to learn Spanish, so we're doing that.)

It's just not flashy or kiddish and I think that is ok. Now, as far as writing, etc... I don't see them mastering that but I think it would be a good intro to discuss with them. My oldest really took to it today. He has been greeting me with "Salut! Comment allez-vous?" all.day.long. ha ha! They are supposedly going to have Spanish in the future.
