mlgbug
Okay we are roman catholic. We go to church, talk about bible stories, but really me or the kids don't know what we should. I would love to give them a stronger foundation of our religion and really study the bible. What is out there that you recommend for k-3? Faithr
I really like Catholic Heritage Curriculum for their elementary level catechesis. https://www.chcweb.com/catalog/index.html
airforcefamily
We've chosen not to use a full Catholic curriculum after looking over most every option at a conference. If I were to use a packaged Catholic curriculum it would be Seton. We use some of their materials, particularly for religion, but not the full program. I found that for things like math and grammar which don't really need to be religious different programs work better. More than trying to use Catholic materials I focus on avoiding Protestant books, especially history, that portray events like the reformation in a positive light. For what it's worth, we don't formally study the bible. We learn other aspects of Catholicism and sometimes read the bible. When they're older we'll do more in that area but I think it's better to use time on other religious learning.
Lisa in the UP of MI
We use a variety of resources. The 3 older kids attend religious education classes at our church. They use the Faith and Life series. At home we use Bibles (we're reading through three children's Bibles right now), the New Saint Joseph Catechism series, various saint stories, and several other books (including the books by Rosemarie Gortler and Donna Piscitelli). purduemeche
I'm not sure how it lines up specifically with the Catholic faith, but we love "Long Story Short." It's a great program to teach your kids through the Bible.
pollyanna
We are also Catholic. http://www.amazon.com/The-Catholic-Home-Celebrations-ebook/dp/B0026LTNK4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1357878118&sr=8-1&keywords=Catholic+Home http://materamabilis.org/ma/ http://hillsideeduca...ndex&cPath=9_10 I prefer to not use a fully Catholic curriculum. Subjects like math and spelling don't need a religious tone. My children are fairly young and mostly I seek out religious picture books. We have a Catholic Children's Bible. I try to avoid non-Catholic Christian influences. I go out of my way to celebrate our Catholic culture and the liturgical year. We go to Mass weekly and I talk to the children about God and Jesus. I do have my 6yo do copy work from common prayers (Hail Mary, Glory Be, Our Father).
