Live2Ride
What a handsome boy he is...I don't know much about arabian breeding, but all know is he is nicely trained, was given to me free with papers and all mine! He was lovely to watch going around the ring and then the reins were handed over! Man what a floater he is. And such extension when he gets going. I am just thrilled to pieces. Now the fun begins. He was starting his training for Hunter/pleasure they said. He likes to have a job and seems very willing to please. Now to name him. He is a bay, but he has a strong dorsal stripe down his back. He has lovely action and follows me around the pasture already, lol. He'll scream out for me and come running. His registered name is Azure BF, but I'm not calling him that. They called him Amos at the barn....I'm not calling him that either, lol. Could anyone here tell me about his breeding? Aladdinn, Bask, Lalage, Nureddin, Dar, Elkana, Medalion, Marushka, Ambara, Ambra, A Love Song, Allience. There are more names off to the side listed, but those are the last three generations...its greek to me Also on his papers are these little symbols next to some of the names *, ++, //. What are those?
Catwoman
He is STUNNING!!! I hope you have many years of fun and happiness with him -- he looks like a real sweetie, yet very elegant, too. :001_wub:
Kakids
He appears to have Polish breeding. The symbols (at least some of them) indicate a horse that was imported into the country. Looks like a very enjoyable horse. Have fun!
pdalley
The * means the horse was an import. Bask was a foundation sire of the Polish line that was imported and stood at Lasma Arabians for years. The + symbols stand for Legion of Merit and other honors. I've forgotten what they all mean. He's an absolute beauty. He reminds me of my Polish Arab. I had him from the time I was fifteen until I had to put him down before I turned 30. He was twenty years old. (laminitis) I miss him. Enjoy! A quick google will help you sort out his breeding. The Polish Arabs are my favorites. Bask sired a bunch of winning horses as well. .
besroma
Wow. He is absolutely beautiful. Congrats!
Live2Ride
The weather is so bad here right now and the other three horses wouldn't let his poor self into the barn. Stinkers. He was also quite worked up about the new place. I ended up moving him and one of my mellow horses in a large pen with him and then everyone stood out in the rain....which is supposed to continue for another 3-4 days straight! My pasture already looks like a larg sheet of glass....I need a boat.

Halftime Hope
I'm not a horse lover. That said, he is drop-dead handsome!
Ottakee
It seems to always happen that you get a new horse in the worst weather. He is stunning. How old?
BrookValley.
Oh wow, so pretty. Yes, very Polish! You are going to have so much fun with him. How exciting! I don't have any great suggestions for names for you. I like Amos as a barn name, so I'm no help. But maybe that's because we tend to call *everything* Amos around here...I have no idea, but it's like our word for "buddy." I even call my kid Amos sometimes. Goat in the feed bin? "Hey, Amos, get yer head out of that!" Goose chasing the dog? "Yo, Amos! Leaveitalone!!" But none of my animals is actually named Amos. Remudamom
I'm not familiar with Polish lines, SE is my thing, but I do know Bask is fantastic!! How was the ride? We need more details. He is lovely! Is he your first Arabian?
Remudamom
Some of those symbols have something to do with his show record. I think ++ and // are both show thingies.
Live2Ride
He is my first pure Arabian. I have a NSH/QH cross right now (National Show Horse = Saddlebred and Arabian cross). I rode his NSH mother for years. She was amazing and had lovely tipped in ears. A tall girl and floating at the trot. Her son is lovely as well and he is a favorite at 4-H since he is so well behaved in the ring. 'Amos' is a coming 5 year old (March) and has been shown. He was placing nicely, but not high enough to keep him on. He was getting started into Hunter/Pleasure and I'd like to keep that going. I want to see if we can start putting some jumps together and start hitting the trails as well. I want a well rounded horse like my others. He seems to enjoy working and was very responsive when I rode him. We are going to have to work on leg yields a bit more as he understands, but is not real quick on them. He does have a very good whoa, lol. And stands square. I hope the rain stops very soon, because I plan to start taking him around our fields so that he and I can get aquainted. He is so smooth to ride. It's definitely different than riding my QH but he rides similar to Jeaux, my NSH/QH. I also like that he's not too tall. I like them in the upper 14 hh, lower 15 hh range. Makes gettin on and off easier. :)
Live2Ride
I remember your thread about getting him, and was amazed someone would give such a horse away for free. He is absolutely gorgeous. Have fun with him! They actually do this on a regular basis every few years. They are a big breeding/showing facility and they know whats going to bring in the awards. If the horses aren't making it in showing, they atleast make sure they have a good start in training and then give them away. They do sell some, but those are the ones that are making it out there. For them hanging onto the ones that are not doing as well as the others involves money and time to market them. They'd prefer just to give them to good homes. Lucky Me! :)
Remudamom
That's how I got my first Arabian mare and stallion, but it was dh's cousins. We went to their home for Thanksgiving one year, and I think I was "tested". They had never seen me around my horses. Anyhow, they handed over one of their stallions for me to lunge, and the next day told me that they would give me a mare. Had to talk dh into it, he wasn't an Arabian fan. A couple of years later they sent me a stallion. For the prices they get for them (they sell to sheiks in the Middle East) we never would have bought one. Remudamom
I'm so excited that one of us got an Arabian this winter!!! When I had my SEs I went insane naming them. I gave them Egyptian/Arabic names that described them. Nabila Rafiqa (according to the internet) means Egyptian Companion, because her very first day she abandoned her dam and followed me around. Sometimes I went with a theme for all the foals born one year......Fable, Myth, Legend etc and sometimes named them after their dams. We had mother/daughters named after Southern towns, musical terms, whatever. I think your Amos needs a very special name. What were King Arthur's knights named? Anything pop out at you? Or some ancient elvish thing? You are going to have a blast.
Unicorn.
I think you should name him Lancelot. He's gorgeous!

DD suggested Neeko....I don't think that's it yet though, lol.

Live2Ride
Wow he's stunning! Makes me drool a little over here. Thanks! I'm drooling a bit here too, lol. I love it when he gets to shaking that head around and calling after me. His call is seriously loud! I was quite surprised when he did it the first time (and my ears hurt afterward because he was right next to me).
Wendi
Wow, he is really handsome! I'm living vicariously through you horse people these days. Ds and I had our lesson yesterday. I missed "my" horse after a two-week break! I'd ride every day if I could.
