Tardis Girl
Would love to hear from anyone using Reading Roadmaps -- what do you think? how helpful is it? in what ways is it helpful? I am also wondering about the versions.... I like the idea of PDF because of the space-saving aspect but wonder how user friendly that version is. I really want to get using Teaching the Classics principles more with my younger crew and thought maybe this would be a helpful resource to keep me moving on that. Thanks! Tenaj
I'm not much help because we are starting it today :) I decided to buy the PDF version. I went through over the weekend and printed out the sections I really needed and put them in a three ring notebook. I already had Teaching the Classics so I didn't feel like I needed to print everything out. I basically just printed out the daily stuff for the grades I was using. Tardis Girl
Was it pretty printer-friendly? As in, not using excessive ink for unnecessary pictures/graphics? How do you envision yourself using this? I see you've got a nice span of ages and think this would've been quite helpful to me when my older ones were in high school and I had trouble keeping up with all their reading. But now I just have the elementary set so I'm not totally sure how I want to use it with them.

But now I just have the elementary set so I'm not totally sure how I want to use it with them. The printing was pretty basic in the sections I printed. Just words and a bit of a graphic at the top to show the different parts of the table lay-out. No pictures that I can see but I only printed part of it. Well, we didn't get started after all today .. . my kids managed to forget everything they knew over Christmas break :) I really like the large list for Kindergarten and I'm looking forward to just gently introducing the concepts for him with good books. I do better with a list for him because of being so busy with the older kids. In looking over everything today, I'm going to lump my 2nd, fourth and fifth grades together for the first few weeks and just introduce the different aspects with various picture books. Once I get them all going, I'll split off into the recommended reading. My tentative plan at that point is to have them read and meet with me twice a week to work on the questions and map out the books. I'm going to try to be very flexible with it so that it doesn't become a chore for any of us. My high schooler is doing MFW so I won't be trying to implement Roadmaps at this time with him. Tardis Girl
Jan -- thanks for sharing that. I like the 2x weekly meetings, too. Would love to hear an update on how it goes! I didn't even know they had this as a PDF option. There are both options if you buy directly from the author's site. If you click on the link in my original post you will see it. I think it's $39 vs $29... wish the PDF was less, lol, but still a $10 savings is something! PDF makes me nervous because I can't resell it if I don't like it, but I like paying less for it AND the space saving aspect is huge too. (Although I admit that I worry about forgetting that I have it in PDF form though... is that weird?)
