Changed the way you homeschool?

Mid way through, and lots of stuff is starting to make sense. Like why I hated our old house for schooling (open floor plan) and how much better our schooling is now (there's a place for everyone to hide, here).

I'm also feeling much less anxious about the fact hat my kids just really would rather not socialize. They'd much rather go off and do their thing. I mean, I'm an introvert, too, so I always got that to a certain degree, but I've always held onto this tad bit of worry.

And the part about Harvard Business school was *priceless* for me because that type of school is the epitome of what we want to avoid, for the reasons we want to avoid it. And it was nice to see that the actual best CEOs were strong introverts (She mentions Good to Great in there, which I read years ago, excellent book) so I have hope for my kids. :D

Thanks for posting your thoughts. I'm going to add this to my reading list. Sounds like it would be encouraging to me too. I get it about the open floor plan. Dh has often talked about knocking out the wall b/t our living room & kitchen. At first I thought it was a great idea. Didn't take me long to realize I like being separated from the rest of the house when I'm out there. Open plan might make the house seem bigger, but I'd lose my hiding spot!

Writing shorthand now because my post disappeared.

I read it and enjoyed it.

Changed my outlook about some things.

I'm an introvert who adapted at a very early age and became very assertive if not downright aggressive to overcome the "shy" and "snobby" labels. I have a lot of friends but prefer alone time to recharge. I detest group assignments and working in teams, and when I had a career, I sought and found jobs where I had autonomy and didn't have to do group projects or attend wasteful meetings.

Thought the part about introverts literally having thinner skin was fascinating. I am ultra sensitive and Hispanic, but my skin does appear to be rather thin--you can see all my veins.

I thought the book was fantastic. I used in my meetings with my staff to help them think more about the type of assignments they give in the classroom and whether or not everything they do is geared towards extroverts. They were all impressed and said it really made them take stock of their instructional practices. I also use it to change the way I do my meetings providing ways for introverts to feel safe and comfortable giving input.
