shinyhappypeople
We're ditching our ps charter school's homeschool program (yay!!!!!) which means ditching the $$$$ funding, too. We have a very modest income, so I was a little concerned about the cost of curriculum, but, look what I found: Lesson Pathways. I actually ran across it awhile back but never really used it and forgot about it. It looks FANTASTIC. My girls strongly prefer a non-workbook approach, so I think this might work beautifully. Yay :) Anyone else have experience with this curriculum?
amyrobynne
i haven't used it, but one of my favorite bloggers is a big fan: http://www.houseunseen.com/2012/11/top-10-ways-to-homeschool-on-cheap.html
Pastor's Wife
Looks interesting! Anyone on the boards using it?
mommyagain
Thanks for reminding me about this! I'm getting ready to withdraw from our virtual academy and I don't have funds for new stuff for the rest of the year either. This should supplement nicely the things I already have on my shelves. tomandlorih
I don't know what grades you are looking for but you might check out http://www.theheadoftheclass.com/ also.
boscopup
I don't know what grades you are looking for but you might check out http://www.theheadof...ass.com/also. The board software really split url that in the wrong place... To the OP, you might check this site out also. I haven't seen it mentioned on these boards yet, but looked at it recently. Too much online learning for my kids (one of mine gets crazy behavior if he gets much screen time), but I liked what I saw: http://allinonehomeschool.wordpress.com/about/ There are also free curricula for several individual subjects out there. MEP for math, PLL/ILL for English, Blend Phonics for reading/phonics, the AO book list for literature and possibly history/science. Library books are great for history/science also. Jay3fer
I saw it a couple of years ago but decided it looked too complicated. Too much reading ahead, clicking links, printing stuff and pulling it all together for my taste. I'm happy this is out there, and it seems sound and thorough, but it's definitely not for us. :-) You might want to look at MEP math instead to save yourself some of the "pulling-together" steps, simply because it's also free and many people here love it. But I do like the "living math" approach, esp in the early years.
DoppeltGemoppelt
I used it for preschool and my kids LOVED it! We didn't do everything, but I incorporated phonics, language arts, music (from youTube), art, field trips and just everyday living into the curriculum. Coincidentally, we always found something in the real world that related to what the kids had just learned! I did not like their Kindergarten reading program though, so we used HOP instead (cheap older version from eBay).
SorrelZG
Thank-you for sharing this. We are going to be experiencing some restriction in resources and budget soon so having so many free resources online and organized already looks super helpful. sewingmama
I have used it on and off - mostly as a supplement. It would drive me crazy using it in full because there is so much clicking around of links and some of the information was above the heads of the grade level they used it for. For cheap phonics I used phonics pathways and www.progressivephonics.com which is free and my kids loved reading the funny stories. Lesson pathways requires a ton of prep work. curlygirlzx2
We used Lesson Pathways for science in 1st and 2nd grade.
Guest sophiewise
We've just started using parts of lessonpathways. I think we're going to love the language arts. Last night we read from Children of Odin (northern myths-Thor) for 4th grader and next week we'll be learning about apostrophes, writng a poem about Elves, and building a diorama of Asgard. I think he'll enjoy this more than what we were using. We are going to do some of the science and history too based on interest, but I may use library books for some of the reading. knittingmama
We used Lesson Pathways several years ago, right when it first came out. We used it for a little over a semester. I liked it alright, and felt like it had some interesting lessons. We used it during pre-K and 1st for language arts and science. I would have continued using it longer, but as it has already been mentioned, it just seemed like a lot of work on my part, and I had several very small children at that time. I have often thought about going back to it for some supplementary resources to use along with our main curriculum.
