USNA Summer STEM -- Applications online NOW :D

Recommended Posts

Rats! It's for rising 11th graders, not rising 12th graders, so my son is out. Boo!!

Looks amazing. Is tuition REALLY only $200 for the week????

Yes, really $200 for the week! They don't offer it to rising 12th graders, because the rising 12th graders apply to the summer session (it's longer than a week, and it's like a "taste" of USNA life (minus the plebe part...lol).

Never considered this with my older two. Dumb question... what are they looking for?

Girls and boys who are really interested in Science/Technology/Engineering and Math.

I don't know about the *exact* qualifications...assuming strong student, team player, leadership qualities (does more than just school). I read on their facebook page that early applications can get earlier consideration for the program (assuming they have all of what is being looked for).

The application asks about classes taken, PSAT/SAT/ACT scores (if you have them), why you want to attend, sports you play, other activities you participate in...that kind of thing. It looks like a mini-application for Summer Session (most of those applying to summer session have a strong desire to attend USNA).

This is our first year applying, I'm just hoping my son has what they are looking for :D

If he will be a rising senior, he might want to check out the Naval Academy Summer Seminar program. (The STEM Camp is for slightly younger students.)

The Summer Seminar application also serves as a preliminary application for the Naval Academy. NASS can be especially good for students who are intrigued by the idea of attending a service academy, but are not really sure what attending an academy would entail. Most students tend to leave either fired up about attending or realizing that it isn't really a good fit.

However, you don't have to attend Summer Seminar in order to be accepted at USNA.
