sheryl
DD took violin 3 years ago and was in a 3/4. Now as an almost 14 year old she's grown into a 4/4 (full) size violin. Do you have any links you could send for good quality and reasonably-priced violin sites? Thanks in advance.
Miss Marple
We purchased drums from this site on the recommendation of the music school my sons attended. Good quality and very good prices, IMO. However, we haven't purchased violins there. We used a local violin shop when we purchased a violin. http://www.musiciansfriend.com/

anneinco
We bought my daughter's violin (1/2 size I believe) from Kennedy Violins. Very happy with the service and her teacher keeps commenting on the potential the violin has when it comes to sound. They were local to us so we were able to walk in but I believe for a small cost ($40ish) they will send a couple different violins to you so you can try them out. Splash
Shar Music and Southwest Strings both sell violins in a wide range of prices.
Susan in TN
Another shoutout for Shar. We've had better service from them than sw strings. Dd worked for Shar for a year and their ordering people were well-trained. I've used Shar for decades now (I'm so old!) - I prefer to purchase instruments locally, but if that's not practical, Shar is a good bet. They stand behind their products. They will send you instruments to try out if you need to compare.
sheryl
Thanks all! I'm not familar with musiciansfriend or lark in the morning. Those are 2 more to consider. I thought Kennedy was expensive; maybe I'll check it out again. And, SW and Shar are ones I'm calling right now to ask questions. If anyone has any other suggestion, please let me know today, TH as we need to make a decision and order asap. Appreciate it!
Miss Marple
We didn't have a very good experience with SW Strings. It has been a few years ago, though, but at that time I would not have recommended them - due to poor customer service and aggressive/obnoxious sales lady. My niece, who teaches violin, also had a poor experience with them (about the same time).

Dmmetler
Shar is great. I also like Woodwind and Brasswind (which has a strings division as well)-they're a solid company with a range of price points, and when they say an instrument is MENC set up, they mean it. They really focus on selling to school programs, where having good quality, easy to maintain instruments at low price points is a requirement. jhschool
Shar Products. They will ship you an instrument and you can send it back if it doesn't work for you. They also have a rental plan.
Splash
By any chance can your violin teacher help out with the purchase of the violin. When ds needed new violin his teacher call Shar and a violin broker to send a few instruments and bows in our price range. Then she had ds play all the violin/bow combinations to see which was the best violin for him Took several days but it became very obvious which was the best match for him. We ended up buying from broker but friends got violins from Shar.
