Anybody not want to start up again from holiday break?

Recommended Posts

We stopped mid-December with a last-minute vacation (got a deal we couldn't pass up), so that left some loose ends that I was hoping to wrap up this week and get a fresh start next Monday. But I don't wanna. (the whine doesn't come through in text, does it? you'll have to use your imagination) The kids are expecting to start back, even fine with some work this week, it's just me dragging my feet. Am I the only one?

I typed up detailed schedules for the new semester and got all excited about starting back up. The plan was to start today. Kids showered and went to bed early last night.... and then, nobody got up this morning, including me :) So here it is after noon and nobody has finished the first thing on today's list!!

We are just getting back in to finish up some things and to get our brains working again too. But it is going much more slowly than I wanted. sigh. Tomorrow is a new day, right

I am definitely not motivated! I am planning on wrapping up a couple things by Friday so that we can start fresh Monday, but it just isn't happening. I keep hearing a little voice in the back of my head telling me to just go slow...and if it doesn't get done then skip it. Starting to sound good to me!

I was going to start today, but then a friend invited the boys & I out to lunch, and that took 3 hours. And then tomorrow afternoon we have a birthday party. And then another friend invited me to lunch on Friday.

And then the other day I was on the treadmill in the school room, and figured out how to add 3 more bookcases. So I'm in the middle of moving furniture in there. No one can currently get to their books, and the older boys are good with heavy lifting (they just helped me carry a loveseat from the basement school room up the stairs to the kitchen, so uh...

Yeah...I'm thinking we'll start Monday.

We're kind of doing what Rose is doing... doing some light days, tomorrow and Friday. Then next week we'll start "for real" again, LOL.

(Psst, Rose... how are the Mud novels? Looking at them with interest. :) )

(DD read the first one today in about an hour. She said she really liked it, and we had a good discussion . . . but honestly? I think they are a little easy for her. I think they will be *perfect* for 3rd grader (or whatever grade/age) just finishing SI. I wish we had had them a year ago. For her, they were candy . . . Not bad, but she didn't grow any new brain cells, I don't think.)

Well, we ended up having a WONDERFUL learning afternoon/evening after our slow start this morning. We didn't really do much for daily skills work. I just wanted to warm up their brains this week. So both did latin review pages. Both did some math on xtramath.org, and I read aloud to finish our Dec. read aloud book.

But this afternoon/evening we read and read and read for Bible, History, and Science. We looked stuff up online for futher research of science and history topics. We started dd8's new unit for science with Usborne encyclopedia, Dover coloring book, and online games. We practiced memory work lists. This is my favorite part of hsing.

But getting everyone up and working by 9;00 am. to do spelling workbooks, english texts, and math and latin... well, the goal is by monday. That may be pushing it.. We have a playdate tomorrow, so hopefully we can knock some of it out before they get here, and then work together again in the afternoon/evening.

I guess I have to get myself out of the bed into the cold morning if I want them to do it.

ME!!!! We ended early due to the flu, were fine over Christmas and New Years, and are now dealing with a stomach bug. We took a longer break than I intended, but because we have been dealing with illnesses, I am still exhausted and feel like we didn't get much of a break. I am planning to start back on Monday and am hoping that at least I can get some stuff printed and take the Christmas decorations down by then. Not holding my breath about the decorations though.

I don't wanna start again on Monday, I want to spend another week cleaning and decluttering. Extracurrics all kick in full force next week too so we are back to the rush rush rush. This has been a nice couple weeks of lots and lots of cleaning but also no running hither tither, and no online classes, and no school at all. Must get back to it or we never will, but i am already looking forward to spring break :)

Me. We are currently on summer holidays and don't start back till the 28th. However with holiday prep, in laws staying (and STILL here for another week), new year school planning, swimming lessons and now I'm sick I don't feel I have had a break at all. When the inlaws finally leave I will have to finish up planning and do a major declutter. My house is overloaded with crap they won't stop buying I feel like I can't move in here.

Added to that is the heat wave we are having and we can't go out and I'm so lethargic I don't want to do anything. I was planning to school a bit through the holidays but the kids are not keen. DD said she isn't touching a drop of schoolwork on the holidays and since her Dad is a school principal I can't trick her into thinking the holidays are over already.

We have started our new read aloud list but their grandparents are distracting and now I've lost my reading voice with this illness so that is very slow too.

Hoping I can take a nice long rest for a few days when they leave - no more going sight seeing or shopping every single day in 45 degree weather. My inlaws from CANADA are coping better with the heat then I am.

While I couldn't wait to start back up with school (the kids need a routine!) I could do without the outside commitments starting up again. It was so lovely to just be at home with the whole family (DH took leave) and do whatever we wished for the last two weeks. Now I've got emails and planning sessions to deal with. Blah.

Why don't you just take time off from outside activities for a month or so? The only commitment we are going to start again is 4H. Everything else is on hold until I have revamped our routine and we are satisfied with our schedule again.

We start school again on Mon, and yes, I am having trouble getting excited about it. I am feeling really good about crossing off the extracurriculars. Several people have been extremely gracious and congratulated me on having the courage to put the madness on hold for a while. You can explain (as I did) that it is only temporary.

Oh, you mean we're actually supposed to educate our kids when we home educate? Humph! What a rip-off!!

Sigh... NO, I am nowhere near motivated to get going again. DH is off for another week, so we may or may not get going on Monday, which was my original plan, before he informed me that he had booked the time off work.
