Looking for a recommendation on an omega 3 product for all 4 kiddos...

Needs to:

taste good LOL

My kids chew multi vitamins so no problem there, in fact prefer chewable over liquid

MUST be gelatin free (fish content OK)

If none are gelatin free, then what is the best liquid? Anyone try this one: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002VLZ8C6/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_2?ie=UTF8&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER

Also reasonable price, because I need a month's supply for 4 kids... so if you know dosage also that would be great!

Thanks for any help! :seeya:

My favorite fish oils are Nordic Naturals. My son uses the kid's DHA softgels (can be chewed or swallowed), but they do have gelatin. It comes in a flavored liquid, too, though. My kiddo loves chewing those softgels, and it's the same flavored oil inside as the liquid. Smells good, I assume it tastes fine! The link is to a 16 oz bottle on Amazon, but it comes in smaller sizes, too. I don't know if it would count as a reasonable price--it is not the cheapest out there--but a serving size of the liquid is 1/2 teaspoon. It goes a long way! They also have Omega-3 gummy-type chewables that may or not be bovine/porcine gelatin-free, but in my opinion they just aren't worth it for the money. The liquid or the softgels are way more bang for the buck.

Thanks I found the 8 ounce of the nordic naturals liquid for $21.20 here:http://www.amazon.com/Nordic-Naturals-Childrens-Strawberry-16oz/dp/B004T7DYOO/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1357148104&sr=8-9&keywords=nordic+naturals

That is 96 doses, so 24 day supply and about .89 per day for all 4 kids.

Has anyone tried the liquid, if so how did it taste? My kiddos will take the liquid tylenol still if that is any reference point.

I could buy the larger size, but want to try the flavor first...so any input there would be helpful

Also how long to give it a try for?? a month...when did you see results??

It's *that* strawberry flavor. It's naturally derived, but you know how those strong fruity flavors are--I think they're gross. But it covers any fishy taste! Like I said, my kiddo loves the stuff. And it's a pretty small amount per dose, so it shouldn't be too hard to handle. You can also mix it in a little juice or whatnot and have them just shoot it down quick.

ETA: Yes, I would give it at least a month, but probably about three months is better to give it a real fair shot if you're looking to see noticeable differences in behavior or mood.

Ok another question, so I took omega 3 while pg with all of them, but WHY do you give your kids them? You don't have to get too detailed, but what have you seen improvements in?

My main thing is mood (anxiety issues) for oldest DS, concentration for oldest DD and just ??? for youngest DS...

Youngest DS (I think) has some sort of sensory issues and maybe OCD or OCPD???? I still need to get him in to a DR for this, but in the meantime....

Omega swirl has great reviews, but it looks like the content is diluted some vs a straight oil, so I'll have to look into how that translates to serving size.

My kiddos don't usually drink juice, so mixing it in is not an option, so I prefer something they will drink "straight up" lol.

The Barlean's Omega Swirl would be my second recommendation--and it is YUMMY. It's like a smoothie. But I specifically didn't mention it in my first post because you are right, it is diluted because of all the other stuff in it that makes it that yummy taste and texture. Your dollar won't go as far with it. Also, while I think Barlean's is excellent quality, I think Nordic Naturals is pretty much as good as it gets for fish oil. Their process is pretty unique to the industry.

I agree with the other poster--you may see some help with those mood and anxiety issues, but even if you don't, Omegas are really essential for good health, anyway. We take them "just because." I take an extra high dose of DHA right now because I'm pregnant and it's good for brain and eye development, etc.

After my little one's autism diagnosis, I upped the dosage on her Omega 3's and switched to Coromega. It claims better bioavailability but who knows if that's true or just hype. In the ingredients list, I don't see any gelatin listed.

DD was improving before the switch and continued to improve at roughly the same rate after. I figure it's good for her heart if nothing else.
