Look at how many MEN are protesting, and gray haired men! Truly this is wonderful in a country where setting a woman on fire in the kitchen because her bride-price wasn't high enough is just now fading.

Yeah, it is extraordinarily heartbreaking that this woman was attacked and brutalized, that her parents are going to be missing their daughter for the rest of their lives, and that her loving fiance has lost his friend and future wife. It is extremely encouraging to see so many people take to the streets to demand a change in the laws and environment. Frankly, I wish people here would be this angry about the prevalence of sexual assault.

I hope this truly does become a turning-point for the endemic problem of sexual violence and its toleration in India (better yet in the whole area. Continent? World?).

I have to agree with you. It is very heartening to see the number of men protesting these crimes alongside the women.

I have no doubt that many of these men are genuinely concerned about the shocking prevalence of rape and eager to see change, which is wonderful; unfortunately, I read an article yesterday with rather a different spin, reporting that even at these protests women are getting molested.
