jen3kids Posted January 1, 2013 Posted January 1, 2013 My oldest and his friends are blowing through our rechargeable batteries. The Ni-MH rechargeables we currently have are 'old-ish' - bought 5 years ago or so when we bought the Wii. We do need to get new ones, but I was wondering if it make sense to get a rechargeable battery pack for the xbox controllers - like this from Amazon http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Quick-Charge-Kit/dp/B0041CWZEM/ref=pd_bxgy_vg_text_y Thanks. Ottakee Posted January 1, 2013 Posted January 1, 2013 I am not sure as we just bought them but my brother says that the eneloop batteries are the BEST. He uses them in everything, including the x-box controllers. He told me to buy a top quality charger and a bunch of the eneloop batteries and we will be set for years. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000RSOV50/ref=oh_details_o06_s00_i00 This is the battery charger he told us to get Then we just bought packs of the eneloop batteries. We just got it so I can't comment on how well they work buy my brother has been using them heavily for a long time and loves them. Quote

I'll do some more looking into them. I love to hear first-hand reviews of them. Thank you. Quote
raceNzanesmom Posted January 1, 2013 Posted January 1, 2013 Our ds uses the Xbox Play and Charge kit. He received one as a gift then later bought the second. They run around $20 per controller. He's had the same ones for over two years with no issue. Quote
nmoira Posted January 1, 2013 Posted January 1, 2013 I can't say enough good about the Eneloops. :) You can even use them in AV remote controls because they don't lose much charge during periods of inactivity. Quote
Joshin Posted January 1, 2013 Posted January 1, 2013 We have the energizer docking station and batteries that sold for the controllers. We bought it four years ago and it's still going strong. It was the best $30 we ever spent. The controllers stay charged for at least 10 hours (that's the longest DH has ever played at once, they may stay charged longer.) Quote

Theses are all we've used since they came out. The best part is you don't have to fiddle with replacing batteries. You pop the deaf on out and plop the new one in. My 4 yo swaps them out for us takes 10 seconds to put the new battery on and start the other charging. Quote

We have 7 controllers in our house and own 2 of the one you linked (or an older version of it). I don't think we'd manage without it! LOL It was a good investment for us--more than a few years ago, actually! Quote
dsmith Posted January 1, 2013 Posted January 1, 2013 Another Eneloop fan here! We use them in all of our controllers and remotes. They were great to have during Sandy for flashlights. Quote
Tap Posted January 2, 2013 Posted January 2, 2013 Our Costco has these charging stations for Xbox controllers for under $20 right now. http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_i_0_5?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=nyko+charge+base+xbox+360&sprefix=nyko+%2Caps%2C337 We had Eneloop and they lasted about a year before they started to only hold a charge for a couple of days in a remote (prior to that they lasted about 2 weeks). We used them in the Wii remote (also runs our Netflix) and while they held up longer than our other rechargeables, I didn't find they lived that much longer. Now to be honest, our old rechargables were higher end, bought for a digital camera, so that may be why we didn't notice as much of a difference as other people say they noticed. We used the charger that came with the Eneloops and were pretty careful about not leaving them on the charger, but honestly sometimes they were forgot. Based on a 2 week estimate, they were charged about 25 times before we stopped using them. They lasted about the same amount of time that 2 Costco sized packs would have, so 8 batteries lasted about the same as 80, for about $10 cheaper. I bought a new set of Eneloops, but want to buy a good quality charger for them before I open the package. Quote
nmoira Posted January 2, 2013 Posted January 2, 2013 We purchased our first Eneloops in 2007 and haven't had to replace any. Subsequent purchases have been for new devices. The only problem I've heard is for gadgets like reading lights with bulbs that need a 1.5 volts from an AA. Eneloops are rated 1.2v. There's been no problem with our LED reading lights though. Quote
