celticmom
Dd8 has enjoyed Roland Dahl books in the past and is currently working her way through all of the Ramona books by Beverly Cleary. That series might last another week and she has already read all of the Henry books by Beverly Cleary. I will probably direct her toward some of the other books by Beverly Cleary but I am hoping to get some other ideas for books and series that she might like. She is somewhat sensitive and has already rejected Rick Riordan books as too scary and likely to give her nightmares.

SilverMoon
The How to Train Your Dragon series is fun. There's action, but it's cartoony and rarely serious. Maybe a Series of Unfortunate Events.
Karen in CO
Edward Eager books are great for this age. Half Magic is a great place to start, but they might be too difficult until she's used to his style. Maybe start as a read aloud or with buddy-reading to check level and understanding. A couple of individual favorite books at this level: No Flying in the House Baby Island The Dragon of Lonely Island Dolphin Adventure Encyclopedia Brown is also a good little series for that age.
