EKS
My 10yo may be coming home again next year. In preparation (yes, I'm a planner!) I'm looking for a high school level (9th grade) literature course that includes grading by another person. I prefer that whole works are read. Any suggestions? Thanks! Donna
Not sure if this would fit for you but...we are using K12's Literature and Composition this year. I think it is suggested as 8th/9th grade level and includes literature, composition, vocabulary, and grammar in an online format. Entire books are read as well as short stories and poems. The pacing was going fairly well until dd decided to read TKAM and then the amount of reading each day got to be too much with dd's schedule so we slowed down (if she were just doing school every day and not a lot of violin practice, it would have been fine). Not sure if it was because she picked that book or just the general pace of the course picking up because she read Lord of the Flies earlier in the year and the pace was fine. They give choices for books to read for each novel section. There is not outside grading for everything the way I purchased it but I think there may be an option for that. You'd have to check on that part of it though. The way I paid for it the online program gives and grades tests in grammar, vocabulary, and reading comprehension but for the compositions written and some essay type questions in the literature part, the parent fills in whether certain criteria were met. EKS
K12's Literature and Composition course is exactly the sort of thing I'm looking for. My son actually went through half of it last year (and he had done levels 6 and 7 previously) and it was perfect. I wonder if the high school courses are similar. Crimson Wife
Adam and Missy Andrews of Teaching the Classics are teaching an online literature discussion class. I know the mom who runs the organization sponsoring the class and it's my belief that she "gets" gifted kids so she'd probably be open to a younger student enrolling. I haven't personally tried, because my DD is in a funny position of already having read most of the books covered in the jr. high class but not being ready for the content in some of the high school books. 3andme
Onlineg3 would probably be a good fit. They offer online high school level courses specifically designed for gifted younger students. They use the Lightning Lit series of guides as the foundation of the course. However, I don't believe they provide grades only certificates of completion. A few other online options: CLRC Intro to Lit and Comp, Laurel Tree Intro to Lit, Scholars Online World or Western Lit., Captive Thought Intro to Lit, Debra Bell's Intro to Lit, Landry Academy and Potter's School also have many lit offerings at different levels. Kareni
I believe that Hewitt Homeschooling also offers a grading option for its Lightning Literature programs. Regards, Kareni
