FaithManor
I have the option of renting 17" x17" napkins for $.39 each, buying 20"x20" (which seem awfully big because I use linen napkins at home for every meal and none of mine are bigger than 15" x15") for about $.79 each (if the ebay seller can find enough packages...she thinks may or may not be able to come up with 7 doz.), or making me own (which at this time, with everything I have on my plate, I am slightly loathe to do even if I could purchase fabric at a bargain and make them for less). At any rate, before I can make any decisions, I need to figure out which size. We are serving a full meal for the reception - baked tillapia, herbed chicken breast, two kinds of veggies, side salad, roll, and roasted baby red potatoes. Do I really need 20 x 20 for this? Thanks, Faith
Caitilin
I think 17" square is plenty big enough for what you're talking about. Don't sweat it. :)
Seasider
I agree that the 17" square is sufficient for the guest's use, often a larger napkin is actually a bother. The real question, though, is how do you plan to place the napkins on the table? Have you decided on a simple fold, or a fancy one? You need to decide on that and determine what size napkin you need to pull off the design you want. Some of those shapes need more fabric. ETA: fwiw, the "official" formal size is 20". But since the rental company offers 17" napkins, I wouldn't worry about any of the guests noticing that your napkins are <gasp!> three inches short. Hmmm....me thinks since the 17" are only thirty-nine cents each, that we won't choose any fancy origami that requires more. I'm slightly weary of the details. That's abnormal for me because I truly enjoy being dd's wedding planner. I fell last night - caught my toe on the dog gate we keep across the hallway to contain Lewis and I landed hard - and I'm sore, very, very sore. So, I think that has something to do with my "meh" attitude. However, there is a special year-end discount that we'll get if we make the deposit on the rental before midnight, so I felt like we needed to choose now...same with the tablecloth sizes. Dh is over at the church measuring tables for me. Thanks ladies! Faith
Seasider
Faith, just go with the 17" rental and call it done! After the wedding you won't have a pile of dirty napkins needing to be washed and ironed. Hope your toe feels better soon! My own toes curled at reading about your injury, ouch! unsinkable
2 quick thoughts... I hope you're feeling better after your fall. And if you buy the larger ones, could you resell them after the wedding to another bride-to-be?
