Neurofeedback therapy

Recommended Posts

I know there was some threads on this and I can not seem to find them. Any one know how to find them? Did a search and came up with nothing.

My sister is going to try this with my nephew who has ADD. I thought I remember some not so good things about it. I goggled it and only came up with ads for it.

Since the forum's search function does not work, I sometimes have to scan through many pages of posts looking for old threads. :crying: There were some neurofeedback (NFB) success stories and some where it was not worth the high cost. NFB is a "Level 1 - Best Support" intervention for simple ADHD. The NFB clinic I went to said that my child's case was complex and not typical of the usual ADHD cases where NFB has been proven to be efficacious. After the expensive assessment, they admitted that it would be an experimental treatment in my child's case and that it would take at least twice as many sessions as the typical ADHD case. The total cost can be over $10,000 and we would find out if it was worth the time, travel and other resources only after 10-12 months.

With such a huge risk and uncertainty, I now understand why NFB has always been closer to a last resort than among the first choice of treatments. I might as well try all the other experimental/unproven treatments that doesn't require so much resources. Instead of going to the NFB clinic now, I would first spend a fraction of that $10K+ on treatments such as Focus Pocus, Superbrain Yoga, vision therapy, occupational therapy, dyslexia tutors, Miracle Belt, DAVID ALERT audio-visual entrainment, Learning Breakthrough Program, HEG home system, Play Attention, Interactive Metronome, Brain Gym, Bal-a-vis-x, martial arts, horse therapy, FM system, The Listening Centre/Program, Integrated Listening Systems, etc.

To find old threads here, since the switch seems to have messed up the usefulness of the search function on site, I do a google search. I'm using google chrome but I think it would work on any browser. In this case I would type:

site:forums.welltrainedmind.com neurofeedback

I *think* I'm hitting all the old threads with the topics I'm seeking using that method.

I'll be watching for replies here too. I've wondered about this for my son.
