I have stomach pain....:(

Recommended Posts

It is in the top half of my stomach...sort of all across. I would say it is a burning/aching type of pain that is fairly constant. I have had in the past a big problem with GERD, but this feels nothing like that. I have no heart burn at all...BUT (TMI to follow) I do seem to have a lot of burping gas. Eating doesn't make it worse, but not better either. Pain comes right back after eating...with in minutes.

It feels like I'm really really hungry....but I'm not.

My mom is sure it is an ulcer, but I'm not so sure. I did just buy some OTC Zantac, so I will see if that helps....but I've had this since Sunday.

Any ideas?

I have no idea, but I've had *exactly* those symptoms since Monday morning! Lots of pain and pressure across the top of my stomach, just below my breast bone. No vomiting or intestinal distress, just *pain* and pressure, and sometimes a pain like intense hunger. Eating made no difference either way. Lying down was less miserable than sitting/standing.

I actually did start having acid coming up and burning my throat as well, late Tuesday evening and through yesterday. I talked to the pharmacist, and she seemed a little baffled, but suggested Prilosec. I started taking it yesterday, and I do feel quite a bit better (I was *so* miserable the last three days), but I don't know whether whatever if is has run its course more or less, or if the meds are helping.

I have to admit, I've wondered from the beginning if this might be an unusual virus...

Interesting. Sounds just like mine. Maybe it is a bug of some sort. I guess the Zantac won't hurt and if it is an ulcer might help.

Thanks!

Dd15 had this kind of pain a few years ago. I took her to the ER thinking it could be something serious. She wasn't as able to articulate how much pain and exactly where as she is now so I didn't want to take any chances. She was so miserable - she just lay on the sofa and moaned. They did the whole upper GI thing - Cat scan, chest x-ray, everything and came up with nothing and so they said it was some kind of virus.

A few days after she was feeling better it hit me. It felt exactly like what you are describing. I got no relief from any remedy I tried but it did finally go away - took a couple of weeks for both of us.

I did have the peace of mind of having had my daughter checked out, though, so when I got it I knew not to worry.

Could it be anxiety about your friend? (from yr. other post.) I'm sure that situation isn't helping.

Hope you're feeling better soon!

I only found out that he had left her yesterday. So I don't think that is it. Sure isnt' helping though!!!

I get pains right under my ribs(breast bone area) also. And mine goes into my back and sometimes lower stomach.

I took my son in to the dr on Monday and asked her about it.

I have an appointment next Tuesday to see if it's gallbladder related.

My first attack was on Father's Day~oh man~I couldn't lay, sit or anything it hurt so bad..Finally after some pepto bismol and 4 ibuprofen I could sleep some.

I got another attack Sunday night and it was a bad one also.

I would say get it checked out..You never know

Thanks all. If it doesn't go away with the Zantac I will definitely be calling the doctor. My mom is still convinced it is an ulcer because she had one and had similar symptoms...but for some reason gall bladder keeps coming into my mind. Although on the Mayo Clinic is mentions that gall bladder pain usually is on the right upper side whereas my pain is more spread out.

This pain was a precursor to my gallbladder as well...sudden onset, no previous gallbladder issues. That was 13 years ago. You should get it checked even if you don't fit the profile for gallbladder (I didn't).

What is the profile for gb trouble?

Ugh. You all have me really freaked out about this gall bladder thing. :( It sure does sound like what I've been feeling... :(

Me too Abbey. I don't know why I don't feel like it is an ulcer...but I am going to take the Zantac for a week or so and see if it feels better. Are you feeling any relief after taking the Prilosec?

female, fat, forty, family history, rapid weight loss...

Yeah, I'm female... I'm at a "healthy" weight for me (BMI), but near the upper end. I was into the "overweight" category and recently lost 26lbs fairly quickly. I'm only thirty, but my maternal grandmother had her gall bladder out (I'm guessing around age 50, 'cause I remember, but was very small)...

And the symptoms sure fit. :(

Ugh, ugh, ugh. If my doctor weren't completely useless, I'd be more inclined to go. I offered dh that he could poke me, suggest I go to a specialist, and then we could throw some money away, and that would accomplish the same thing. ;) I guess it's time to find a better doctor, huh?

Some of the risk factors are age (usually strikes in 40's), diet (high fat, lots of fried foods and dairy) and weight (overweight).

There may be more factors but these were the main ones the doctors mentioned back when I had mine removed and I didn't meet any of these criteria.

I did have a family history...forgot about that.

When I had attacks I had pain that spread around my ribs on both sides and had lots of pressure/discomfort in the center of my chest. The area under my right ribs would be sensitive ( understatement lol) to touch, but the pain was all over.
