sbgrace
Are there any ideas for getting a bird out of house? We have one (sparrow) in our walk out basement....
AK_Mom4
I could send you this fat cat that's sitting on my lap. He's holding me down to prevent me from cleaning the laundry room.
Hoot
Open the exterior door or a window and wait. He'll find his way out. I had this happen several years ago. Make sure any other doors are closed so he can't get into other parts of the house. Also, if you have any birdseed or suet try putting a little at the threshold of the exit to lure him. plansrme
I turn off interior lights, open every exterior window or door that I can't close off, and have all animals and humans vacate the premises--go upstairs, closing the door behind you. I get birds in my house several times a year, and this always works within a few minutes. Terri
sbgrace
Ok, we have windows and the exterior door open and lights off. This seems a lot better than google suggestions to catch it in a blanket! I hope it works--the bird is scared. We'll go back down and check after a while. Melissa in Australia
catching them in a blanket works really well. we do that when a bird gets caught in our fully netted orchard
Erica in OR
Covering them up with a towel or such really does work. My oldest child is quite proficient at this, moving very slowly and quietly toward one that's gotten stuck in the house. Erica in OR
sbgrace
It's gone! The doors/windows worked. I did read about the blanket thing. I worried it would hurt it. I'm glad it's safely out (and nothing else came in)! Now we'll have to figure out how it got in there. We're new to this house. My husband thinks there must be an entrance point and I don't want anything else finding its way in, particularly given we're almost done finishing it to living space. Mergath
I always catch the birds. The bats I let find their own way out!!! :iagree: Though now that we have three cats, I'd have to be pretty quick to get it before they did.
MercyA
We had several birds come down our chimney before we had chimney caps installed. I'm so glad he found his way out safely! :)
