Frankly, I'd prefer to see another set of character in or around that same time period, rather than thrashing around the same plots and characters. I anticipated SOMETHING would happen since there was rumor that that specific actor had not signed up for the next season. That said, I wasn't expecting THAT. That was just plain out horrible (not devastating like Lady Sybil) but upsetting nonetheless! Sheesh, not much Christmas cheer for the masses with that ending... So sad--and I really thought it would end on a happy note because it was so close to the end of the episode and nothing bad had happened. I agree with a pp that it would be better if they simply started over with a new cast. I'm all about period dramas, so as long as I have historically accurate costumes, scenery, and social customs, I'm happy, but the plotlines on DA pushed me too far.
