Pamela H in Texas
I have four sets of kids who make up my family. 2 bios - "the bigs" 3 adopted this past summer - "the three" or more often now "the first three" Monkey - just Monkey :) and "the new three" (who hubby and I have decided to commit to, assuming this is forever, unless at some point it is not -- we started the other way around and found it didn't work for us.) Okay, so I'm thinking of something they can give my mom. The bigs can work out their own thing and I think they may be past the kinds of things I'm looking at for the kids.... So my mom will gladly accept things from all the kids, but I'm not sure I want all of them to be together. Or maybe have them grouped? I thought about having the kids doing handprint crafts for her as those are good to show size/age then you can add personal touches, show development, etc. I looked on pinterest and figured I'd give each kiddo a choice. I thought about figuring out how to frame them. Again, maybe grouped? Also, how on earth would I be able to frame seven such things anyway? So grouping them seems to make more sense. Or? My mom will be here on the 2nd so we have a little time. But I figured since it'll be raining (and snowing?!?!) and we can't very well go anywhere tomorrow, we could do at least some of them tomorrow. We also have only about 300 (slight exaggeration) more gingerbread cookies (dolphins, cowboy hats, letters, hearts, etc) to decorate. WHY did I think we needed so many?!?!?! The kids were happy with 3 cookies each! Maybe we can find someone to donate them to :)
Freckles
Can you get to a florist after Christmas? Each of the children could pick out a flower they love and represents them. Put them altogether to create a very unique and lovely bouquet in a pretty vase. Just a suggestion. Good luck!
PentecostalMom
A friend of mine made "paintings" of butterflies with the dc's footprints as the wings, then made flowers of their hands. Maybe you can google or look on pinterest for examples.
Pamela H in Texas
Oh, so when I was looking on pinterest, I found a bouquet of handprints...I think that may last longer than the flowers :) I also found an elephant family done that way. Of course, any family of handprint animals could work. Wonder what animal we are? Even something like this could work: Or maybe a different animal for each. Or they could do their handprint flower in their favorite color. Hmmmm
AK_Mom4
My kids made DH a t-shirt years ago for Father's Day. It's just a plain t-shirt covered in painted hand prints - each kiddo put 3 or 4 prints on the shirt (front and back). It is really cute - would you rmom wear something like that? I just had them spread fabric paint on their hands, so it's all washable.
Desert Rat
I made a lamp shade for my mom and my MIL when the kids were little. I chose a neutral color and did a handprint for my oldest and a foot print for my youngest (3 months at the time). Around the bottom of the shade, very small, in brown ink (scrapbook pen), I wrote a special note with the ages of the kids. I did buy a lamp for each shade at the time. But, my MIL moved far away this past summer and took only the shade. It's very cute. It's one of my mom's favorite gifts ever.
TXMomof4
I have footprints on the wall - I only have 4 so I got 10x13 canvas at michaels and painted the background different colors. Then dipped their feet and took 'steps' avross the canvas. I have yhem in a square now, but had them walking across the wall at our last house. Maybe you could use smaller canvas and just have them do one foot print?
Pamela H in Texas
I talked to hubby and he liked the idea of a "handprint" scene. So we are doing (paint is drying) an unwater scene: Daddy - crab Kimber - fancy fish John - Octopus (with different sized googly eyes) Victoria - Mermaid A.J. - a rainbow fish Tony - A lobster Monkey - Seaweed (and boy did she SCREAM) A-man - X-ray fish J-man and Twinna both did jellyfish Kimberly also made bubbles and a treasure chest. I have a big blue project board on the wall that we use for school (has a caterpillar for sight words, flowers and butterflies for phonics, etc). We'll put our scene on there when they are all dry and have finishing touches done. I haven't done mine. After all the time it took to do those (and chase Monkey around), my back was killing me. Anyway, so the plan is to take a picture, then have it printed. I haven't decided whether to do it on a blanket or plate or something. We are also going to see Me-Me (the first three's grandma) and Auntie next week. And then Nana (the second three's grandma) is coming up in January. So we're hoping to be quite creative to make those gifts also :)
Caroline
I love handprint pictures. Another idea to do with them--get a blank tote bag from Michaels or JoAnn's or Hobby Lobby or wherever and do the handprint pictures on it with fabric paint. It is usable then. We did this for my grandmother on a walker bag.
