I am pregnant and take prenatals where you are supposed to take 2 a day. I try to spread them out throughout the day because I thought that would allow the nutrients to be better absorbed but is this really necessary? I always end up forgetting the last dose. If I take them together, will they not absorb as well?

It depends upon the vitamin, and is not about absorption, but about a steady presence of the vitamin in your blood. I take them when I get up, and when I go to bed. one I now take at noon (if I remember) but considering how much better I feel, I'm not liable to forget.

oh - because dudeling does a number of supplements, I have 2x a day pill boxes so I know if they've been taken or not.

It depends upon the vitamin - some say 1 - 2x per day, or 2 per day. which does your vitamin say? if the former, you should stagger, if the later it doesn't matter. also, some forms of vitamins are far better abosrbed and utilized than others.

Thank you all. I can't take one dose when I first wake up or with breakfast because I need to spread iron out from my thyroid pill by 3 hours and I take my thyroid pill when I wake up. I will try to remember to take them with lunch and dinner! It doesn't say take 1-2 a day but the dose of the vitamin is only good if you take 2 doses, if that makes sense.

You should take vitamins with meals. Many vitamins are only catalysts for the nutrients in food. If there's no food, there's nothing to catalyze, and so it's a waste of money and effort to take the vitamin.

some should be taken on an empty stomach. I have some I have to take an hour before or two hours after meals. so again, something that varies with the vitamin.
