kbpaulie Posted December 20, 2012 Posted December 20, 2012 A group of homeschoolers we hang out w/ has had a stomach bug going around. So, I wasn't totally surprised when I got sick Friday morning. We tried to keep everyone away as best we could. Well Sunday morning 10yo ds got sick in early in the morning. He said he felt fine before. During the day he ate less, was lethargic, and had the runs. By Mon he was fine. He got sick again Tues morning. Was fine during the day. And then again this morning and has been fine. It's not nerves or anything emotional. I did realize that the night before each incidence he'd had sugary treats pretty late (not enough sweets to make him sick on the spot though) B-day party, Cub Scouts mtg. and a church concert w/ treats. Sweets, unfortunately, are not a new or rare thing. Has never presented w/ food allergies. Didn't complain about stomach pain or issues. Is this just lingerings of something going around or something w/ his diet? Thoughts appreciated... Quote
Mandylubug Posted December 20, 2012 Posted December 20, 2012 I would think, if it was my child, that it was the stomach bug lingering on with him. It is typically worse with kids than adults.. I would also contemplate if there is an area that is contaminated with germs that I didn't disinfect enough and would reclean my house just in case. Quote
Laurie4b Posted December 20, 2012 Posted December 20, 2012 It is my experience that it is not at all uncommon for a stomach bug to do that. If he's eating that many sweets, I assume that he stepped back up into regular eating pretty quickly. You might want to try giving his digestive system more of a rest in general, by eating easily digestible foods for at least 24 hours past the last episode of the runs or vomiting. I would also suggest changing his toothbrush for a new one, so that he isn't re-infecting himself Quote
Jayne J Posted December 20, 2012 Posted December 20, 2012 Yup. What they said. Same thing here. We went to the family doctor, since we have been passing it around since before Thanksgiving and I was getting worried. She said to rewash/bleach/disinfect everything, use antibacterial hand wash frequently, and stay on a bland food diet until 2 days past the last episode of the runs. Everytime I thought things were better, one kid would overindulge in sweets or greasy food and everything would begin again. Ds, in a desperate attempt to break free of bland food, gorged on Christmas cookies (also at Scouts!) one night and that night he vomited and the diarrhea returned in force. So, back to bland foods. At least meals are simple here... I hadn't thought about toothbrushes. New ones are on the list. Thanks! Quote
Mergath Posted December 20, 2012 Posted December 20, 2012 I've been sick every other day for the last four or five days, so it's quite possible. Completely annoying, too. "Whee, I'm better! Uh-oh, maybe not." *blerg* Quote
kbpaulie Posted December 21, 2012 Author Posted December 21, 2012 Thanks all! He's sleeping w/ "the bucket", but assured me he won't need it until Sat as every other day has been the pattern. Quote
