Dmmetler
Wadjet is a Carolina corn snake. We got her from a homeschooled teen, so she's very experienced when it comes to raising snake-crazed little girls and being used as a teaching moment :). Flowing Brook
Wow!! you are a much braver mom than I would be. Forgive what might be a silly question but is the snake naturally that red?
Dmmetler
Yes-she's red-orange with slightly darker saddles bordered in black, and a red belly with black checks. You can find similar colors in wild ones if you check photos taken online, especially for South Carolina (which is why the color is called "Carolina"). I'm amazed that that brightly colored an animal can survive in the wild without any real defenses, but apparently they do fine.
