Dachsund update #2

I think she's housetrained.

Yay.

When we came back from our 10-day vacation, I kept her on her leash all day, tethered to the leg of a chair in the room where I was, or in her crate. I made a big deal about telling her "Let's go outside and go potty," and praised her profusely when she peed. As of Monday, she's been off-leash (although still crated at night and when we leave the house), and there have been no puddles anywhere in the house.

Yay. :-)

She reverts back to her hyper-I-must-be-held-all-day-long state (which is how she came to me) with little effort (as when I was down all day Saturday because of a reaction to a new med and she slept on me all day...she's quite cuddly, lol), but she also recovers her more balanced state pretty quickly.

She was spayed a week ago tomorrow (Thursday) and is doing well. Next week I'll try to start walking her again to help burn off some energy (I hate walking, lol).

So there you have it. :-)

Well that's good news. My dachshund is always on me too. As soon as I sit down, he wants in my lap. It's quite awkward when I'm sitting at the dining room table doing school work. He likes to help with math I guess. He actually doesn't try for my lap when I'm eating though. I guess he learned that was just a no. I wasn't experienced at crate training when we got him and our first dog was never crated, nor needed to be (as if when we go out). When I tried to keep my dachshund in the crate, he became very upset. I just couldn't take it. So he sleeps with me now. At least he's warm on a cold night. :)
