Title says it all. Grandma & Grandpa are getting DD a softball bat that she really, really wants. I'm trying to figure out a fun way to wrap it so she is surprised. (I bought and will wrap it for them as they are 3000 miles away and won't be arriving until dinner time Christmas Day.)

Could you get one of those round carriers that architects etc put their plans into to put the bat in? It will still be a cylindrical present but not obviously a bat. Or secure it to the back of the xmas tree trunk with ribbon, so it is not wrapped, but not completely in plain sight. Tell her there is 1 gift left on the tree to find at the end. SHe will be looking for something small, and not expect that. Or get a long rectangular box and lay it diagonally in it to fit, fill the empty space with filler to stop it from moving around and wrap box. Get a large cloth gift bag(like santa's sack) fill with crumpled paper to shape and tuck bat inside. It will have roughly the size/shape of a bean bag chair.

I would probably cut out some cardboard to an odd shape (if I didn't have an odd-shaped box)--triangle, semicircle--and wrap it in that.

Unless you want to go the route like we did with dh. One year he wanted new jeans so I stuffed the legs with paper and wrapped the gift paper on the outside so it was *obviously* a pair of pants. Sometimes overly obvious is fun too.

I'm all about the surprise, so if she wants a bat, expects a bat, how about wrapping a decoy--a stuffed bat or a Halloween decoration bat, and bringing out the real one when she opens it. If the grandparents are there, they could look confused, "But you said you wanted a bat, didn't you?"

Otherwise, short of a big ol' rectangular box, I don't know how to make it not look like a bat.

Susan's comment about food in the cage is still making me laugh, though.

Time for me to go to bed. That was not the type of bat I pictured you wrapping. I thought, "How would you keep it from breaking through the wrapping paper?" Yeah, I'm tired.

She would like a live bat too. Mama not so much!

So funny!

get wadded up newspaper and add a hook on the top to make a candy cane.

I like the decoy idea.

Took me a minute to realize She was talking about live bat. I kept thinking, how would it fit in a smll cage and why on earth would I put food in the box? LOL.
