Need to bite the bullet and start Christmas when the retailers do...

I, with so many others, say every year, "What?! Christmas decorations are out already?!"

Then, Thanksgiving comes and goes. We recover from that and get Christmas started. Then, I say, "Gasp! Christmas is only 2 weeks away?!"

With my poor time management skills, maybe I need to start Christmas when all the retailers do and quit griping! :chillpill: That is all...

I hate all shopping Christmas or otherwise so if I had my way I'd never shop for anything. That said the only way for me to get Christmas shopping done is to just bite the bullet and deal with with the Black Friday mess. I get my lists ready Thanksgiving afternoon (of course it helps that my family sits around and we all look through ads and point out things we like). Then I go home order whatever I can that day online, Friday I'm up by 7 and at my computer and busy clicking away and ordering. By 10:00 I'm probably 90% done shopping. Usually the rest is either stuff I have to physically go to the store for or perishables that can't be done till Christmas. Then I just sit back and ignore getting ready until the week before Christmas when I realize I have a ton of baking and wrapping to do but at least I don't have to go to the store to do any of that.

Just recently I was thinking the same thing. All the stuff comes out early, and I gripe about it and don't look at it, or if I do, I only buy grudgingly. But then, here I am with Christmas looming, and I'm stressin' about it all. I wish I had done more earlier. I think. There's always the danger of shopping too much if one shops early, unless one has extreme willpower. Sigh. I'm so confused. I don't know what to do to make this joyful time truly joyful, rather than just stressful.

It's such a gamble...there are things I bought early...which for me meant two weeks ago. I now see them on sale for half what I paid for them. Then there are other things that I cannot find at all- should have bought six weeks ago. And wrapping paper is nearly all sold out but the ugly stuff that's left is 70% off. And a blizzard hits tomorrow....I'm just declaring my shopping done even though it clearly isn't. Moving on to baking...which is more fun than shopping anyway.

I didn't do any Christmas shopping in stores this year. Everything was purchased online and can I just say I love Amazon! That brown truck rolling up to my door was so much easier than dealing with people this year and the crowds. Everything has been delivered and we are all ready for Christmas. All that's left is cookie baking for the neighbors which will happen Saturday.

Yep. I now have a tree. It's in the house anyway.

My shopping is pretty much done, but I guess we should decorate or bake or something. :tongue_smilie:

Oh, so your sense of time is like mine? Good to know I'm not alone... :tongue_smilie:

So, it's less than a week before Christmas and I have bought pretty much... nothing. I bought some books for my brother. That's it. In my defense, somewhat, my kids say they don't know what they want. One wants $ to put toward a trip she wants to take, so nothing to buy. The others have hemmed and hawed. Yesterday(!) one said she'd like a new camera, but really she'd be even happier if we found her old one that we suspect her sister misplaced somewhere in the house. And some chocolate oranges. The third one didn't know and didn't know - I was thinking of buying her and electronic chess teacher (the kind with the board, not just on a computer) because she's been wanting to play chess but I can't teach her any strategy, but then she suddenly decided she wanted an iPod Touch - which is (a) beyond the Xmas budget and (b ) we really don't want her to have yet another way to play games and access the internet, when we have to already constantly restrict the other ways she has to do it.

Nephews are also iffy. Just talked to my mom and at this point we're thinking of both of us buying both of them gift certificates to the Lego store.

Yeah, I should probably start sooner... or at least make people give me a list sooner (I am a horrible gift-picker. I need a list, people). :glare:

I did get the tree up though. Yay me.
