cathmom Posted December 18, 2012 Posted December 18, 2012 I am currently reading The Metamorphosis (in German) and would like to continue reading more in 2013. Is anyone interested in reading with me? He has a lot of fairly short pieces. Open to high schoolers as well! Quote
swimmermom3 Posted December 18, 2012 Posted December 18, 2012 I read his short story, "The Country Doctor," for The Teaching Company's A Day's Read course. Boy, would I like to talk about that story, so I am game. I just re-read The Metamorphosis and The Trial is also on my list. Quote
cathmom Posted December 18, 2012 Author Posted December 18, 2012 Oh I love that one! I wrote a paper on Country Doctor in college. I'll have to dig it out! Quote
cathmom Posted December 18, 2012 Author Posted December 18, 2012 I liked the Metamorphosis, but I can't read German. I'd be interested. No, no, you can read in English. I'll be reading in German, but English is fine! Quote
swimmermom3 Posted December 18, 2012 Posted December 18, 2012 Would be interesting to see what gets lost in translation. I was thinking the same thing. I was recently listening to Elizabeth Vandiver's lectures on The Iliad and how Greek epics are written in dactylic hexameter which is very awkward in English, but sounds quite beautiful in Greek.
