k2bdeutmeyer
I was hoping to make a crunchy granola that I could pour milk over in the morning and eat like cereal. I wanted sweet. I used THIS recipe, but modified it by using vegetable oil (I didn't have Canola/Coconut), omitting the coconut, and subbing in maple syrup for the honey. It's not very sweet.....and just kinda blah. So, am I expecting too much from homemade granola? Is it the recipe? Do you have a better one? We don't like coconut at all. I'd appreciate some help!! I'm trying to learn, really I am, lol. nukeswife
I have a few I haven't tried, but that one you posted didn't look like granola to me it looked like coated dry oatmeal with nuts. I have a box of special K granola in the cabinet. I was planning to use it for some grape/granola salad my SIL makes, but I may just eat is a snack. The grape thing is basically grapes and granola mixed with some stuff that ends up tasting like yummy frosting.
TXMomof4
I use the Hillbilly Housewife brown sugar granola and add lots of nuts. Its crunchy and yummy with yogurt or milk.
wonderchica
http://sallysbakingaddiction.com/category/breakfast-treats/granola/ Try some of those. I like her base recipe (5 ingredient). I like to use peanut butter, maple syrups, and almonds.
Luckymama
I use the recipe from 100 Days of Real Food : http://www.100daysofrealfood.com/2010/04/04/recipe-granola-bars-cereal/ EXCEPT I use any combination of nuts or dried fruits to make 4 cups, instead of the 1 c this, 1 c that, etc as in the recipe. I use maple syrup instead of honey about half the time.
