ktgrok
I want to get one of these tool box/storage things for my husband. Which one should I get? Which will be more functional? http://www.harborfreight.com/five-drawer-service-cart-95272.html http://www.lowes.com/ProductDisplay?partNumber=57447-47120-SGY-BOX3&langId=-1&storeId=10151&productId=3341676&catalogId=10051&cmRelshp=req&rel=nofollow&cId=PDIO1#BVRRWidgetID
Unicorn.
Pros on the Harbor frieght unit- 700 lb capacity vs 400 on the one at lowes. Different sized drawers. cleaner lines. Pros on the lowes unit- bottom area locks up power tools, hf is open. Is tool theft a worry? If not, I think I would go w/ the HF over the lowes one. elegantlion
I like the Harbor Freight one better, the open shelf on the bottom can be good for bulky tools. It does have fewer drawers though. My choice would depend on what other tool boxes he has and whether the majority of tools should be in drawers or are more open. The deep drawers are nice too. My dh is very picky about tools and storage. Honestly, I'd have to ask him for a preference if I were buying.
Parrothead
Dh likes Harbor Freight or Sears
itsheresomewhere
I like parts of both but would really have to touch them. I would want to see if they both felt sturdy and like they would last and if the posted weight limits seemed correct. Buying a tool storage cabinet is very personal so what about making him a nice gift certificate for it and letting him decide. Also, check craigslist as around this time of year men are upgrading and selling their old ones.
Dory
My dh says go with the one that has a higher pound capacity and lots of drawers is better than deep drawers. Nothing more frustrating than digging for a tool in a drawer when you need it. Shallow drawers keep thing in sight.
ktgrok
Thanks all. i ended up with the one from Lowes as it had great reviews, and it would fit in my van. The way the other one is packaged (a cube) it wouldn't fit and I'd have no way of transporting it. I will keep the reciept and if he wants he can return it and get the harbor freight one, the price on that one is good until 12/31. Thanks!
