momto2Cs Posted December 14, 2012 Posted December 14, 2012 I'm looking at maybe switching out Famous Men of Greece with The Story of Greece by Mary MacGregor, for my 11 yo. Has anyone read/used this book? I've looked at the samples on Amazon, and really liked what I saw, but would love some feedback. Quote
momto2Cs Posted December 20, 2012 Author Posted December 20, 2012 I own it in Dutch :) She wrote also one about Rome, and these two are part from a series I enjoyed very much when I was a teenager (and so did DH). These books were part of the previous recommandationlist of the Flemish Examcommission. I am not sure what to do next year: dd loves textbooks and I want do something else.... So no help I suppose ;) This was helpful! I like knowing that people enjoyed it! Quote
rdj2027 Posted December 21, 2012 Posted December 21, 2012 I just ordered this for my 11 year old who does not care for history at all but loves a good read aloud. I will post after the holidays to let you know how it is going. Quote

I had pegged it as a strong choice for Logic Ancients, and would love to know what isn't working for you. Quote

Ds11 likes the writing style more in Story of Greece, from the samples I read him off of Amazon. 2. I really dislike, as does ds, the fact that they use Roman names for the Gods in Famous Men of Greece... for example, they introduce Zeus as Zeus, but then refer to him as Jupiter for the remainder of the book. Just kind of irritating for ds since he's very much into Greek mythology. Quote
