blondeviolin Posted December 13, 2012 Posted December 13, 2012 My son had recurring ear infections. He had tubes placed a little over a month ago. The family has passed around some congestion for about a week. Today the littlest is irritable, whiny, has a fever and has been poking at his right ear, etc... All classic symptoms of an infection for him. His right is actually leaking fluid now. I assume that's the congestion that is working its way out due to the tubes. So, do I wait this out and hope the congestion passes/clears on its own? Or should I hit up his pedi? I really don't wanna have to drag all the kids in... Quote
Reflections Posted December 13, 2012 Posted December 13, 2012 When my ds7 had tubes, they said leaking fluid was a sign of an infection and should be treated with the drops they had me get - which were antibiotic drops. Quote

I knew they said SOMETHING about leaking fluid, but I couldn't remember. :p Now I should probably find those drops... Quote
Reflections Posted December 13, 2012 Posted December 13, 2012 Let me also say this: what they didn't tell me was that the tubes could get clogged with the junk flowing out of his ears. So, about 2 weeks after my ds got tubes - he was 'bout 11 months old, he started behaving like he had an ear infection and I IGNORED it thinking "well, I don't see any fluid" and about a week later he had a raging 105 fever from having a bilateral ear infection. But, after that he has not had another ear infection - ever. If you can't find the drops - look in the fridge, that is where they told us to keep ours, or call the pharmacy and ask for a replacement.... Quote
blondeviolin Posted December 13, 2012 Author Posted December 13, 2012 Well, I called the pedi because now it is bloody gunk coming out of his ears. We have an appointment in thirty minutes. They want to make sure it's all draining. Thanks for the heads up! Quote
Reflections Posted December 13, 2012 Posted December 13, 2012 Good luck. I hope your little guy feels better soon! Quote
