Guest mamarhody Posted December 13, 2012 Posted December 13, 2012 My son was in 5th Grade last year and FLEW through Saxon 6/5 - it was too easy for him really. Would it be okay to bump him to 8/7 this year? Or would he be missing some key learning in 7/6? I know Saxon spirals so I thought it might be okay to bump him by a year if those skills will be recovered in 8/7 any way? Thanks all! Danielle Quote
Jim Posted December 13, 2012 Posted December 13, 2012 If you already own it or can borrow it, one idea might be to test him through 7/6. Just start with the first test and give them one by one over a period of time. Maybe even let him read through the lessons between tests (or not). If his scores are satisfactory (85%?) go to the next. If he tests through the book move on. If you reach a point where he stumbles start there and use the book as designed from there. Jim Quote

Jim That's what I was going to say. Use the reviews/tests as daily lessons until he bogs down, then start working there. Better to zoom through it and catch a few little holes than to miss something important than get overwhelmingly stuck in the next book. Quote
