A little disappointed but shouldn't be.

Dd has been making amazing progress with MM2. I had wanted to get it done last year, but she was in the cyber school and 2 math programs was too much for us.

She just finished chpt 6 and has done great so far, but fights me daily especially with math. Her therapist suggested we try the end of year test because maybe her fighting is that its too easy and boring. So she took the test today, and failed. :(

I'm disappointed because she's almost 12 years old, and how in the world could she have gone through 6 years of public school and not be able to pass a 2nd grade test?! I thought maybe she just didnt try during the placement tests.

I shouldn't be disappointed because i did test her, and i have to stop letting others talk like they know my kids better. I KNEW she was going to do poorly on the areas she did poorly.

I am glad we did the test, because it showed she needs more review in areas we've already done. She did well at the time, but obviously needs more review of it.

Pity party over. It is what it is. We will continue where we were. My goal is getting 2 years of math done per year until we hit that big stumbling block or catch up to her appropriate level.

Are you talking about Math Mammoth? We just did three years of it and I thought she was doing great but when I tried dd on other program, she couldn't do the math. She was doing the work correctly in MM but not retaining it after the fact. I can't figure it out.

So now, we've signed up for IXL and she's starting at the bottom again.

Just as an FYI, in the supportive-materials folder, there are cumulative reviews and a link to a website fore making extra worksheets. Another possibility is to use the end of chapter review as the end of chapter test, then use the end of chapter test as review.

Just an fyi, while I *love* MM to teach concepts, I don't use it as a stand alone. It wasn't transferring to other work when I did. When I was *only* using MM, my mathy girl was NOT doing well on tests and was NOT able to recall previously learned concepts. I'm sure it works well for others as a stand alone, but it didn't work for us that way.

Thanks everyone.

I'm not yet too concerned about her retaining the concepts since it's very basic (time, addition, etc).

We do use the supportive materials as much as possible.

I was just disappointed (mostly) that i was so right about her ps education having left her so clueless about math. And that i let someone make me question myself.
