I.Dup.
Just wondering if you have enjoyed any particular near death experience books or end of life books? I am interested in these right now. I am currently reading "Proof of Heaven" and I like it because he is more articulate than some others I have read. :bigear:
Debbi in Texas
I read Heaven is for Real this year and enjoyed it.
caroljenn
I got a pamphlet from the hospice workers when my mom was dying of cancer called "Gone from my Sight". It chronicles what to expect the last few months of someone's life, with a lot of detail. I'm not sure what type of thing you are looking for, but this is for the families to understand what different things are occurring and are going to occur and what to expect. You can download it from the Internet.
gardenmom5
return from tomorrorw by george ritchie MD. I first read it many years ago. I read it again after my mother's death as I'd planned on giving it to my brother. It's a fairly quick read, and I found it very uplifting and inspiried me to be a better and more compassionate person.
Farrar
I'm not exactly sure if I'm answering the right question (ETA: I realized this is because I'm not sure that I personally put "near death" and "end of life" issues into the same category myself so I feel like I must be framing these thoughts very differently from the OP)... but... The book that taught me about death was A Ring of Endless Light - a YA novel by Madeleine L'Engle, and which I still think has helped me frame issues around death and dying. I also really love this longish article from a couple of years ago by Atul Gawande.
I.Dup.
Thank you all for the suggestions! I'm not exactly sure if I'm answering the right question (ETA: I realized this is because I'm not sure that I personally put "near death" and "end of life" issues into the same category myself so I feel like I must be framing these thoughts very differently from the OP)... but... I also really love this longish article from a couple of years ago by Atul Gawande. By near death/end of life I mean people who have had near death experiences, or are preparing for their death and pondering what that means, etc. I have watched some videos of people who were dying, heard of books that chronicle lectures and things like that. Not necessarily the care of people who are at end of life, but speaking on these issues. If that makes sense. :/

nmoira
Are you interested in the science of NDEs or just spiritual resources?

milovany
I just went to a retreat this weekend, in Yakima, on dying and death. It was really, really good. Here's a link to the talks (more than worth the $12 to get them), and the first two talks are in print format in Fr. Josiah's church newsletter (October, November). I imagine the next five talks will also be in print format in the next five church newsletters. I love the November one on aging.
I.Dup.
Are you interested in the science of NDEs or just spiritual resources? Not really the science of NDEs, I know that can go either way. Mostly spiritual experiences. :) Thank you all for the suggestions! I am looking into this for myself, not my MIL at this point.
