butterflymommy
If anyone has had a missed miscarriage, how long did it take to expel the fetus naturally? I'm three weeks into having miscarried (confirmed via sono) and am showing no signs at all except a handful of cramps. No bleeding. I feel like I'm biding my time waiting for my insides to fall out... my next appointment is friday and I assume they'll offer me cytotec or a d&c. I have no one to watch my 14 month old so I don't want to go into the hospital. My kids can watch her for an hour or 2 but not 6+ hours which is how long I was in the hospital last d&c. I'm drinking rosemary and parsley tea, I don't want to spend money on tinctures... I've read online it can take up to 8 weeks? :crying: Also if anyone has paid for cytotec how much did it cost? We have no prescription coverage. I can only find canadian prices online.
GWOB
Big hugs. I didn't discover my miscarriage until I was actively cramping and bleeding, but when I went in for an u/s, they discovered the baby had passed away close to 4 weeks earlier. I am so very sorry to hear this. Please do what you have to do. The waiting is terrible. Again, major hugs for you.
butterflymommy
Thanks. I have to hold out one more week anyway. They want to conform a 2nd time there's no HB but I know to the day when I ovulated so my dates aren't wrong. I'm definitely 3 weeks into the loss. I'm wondering if fasting (other than water) might trigger the bleeding to start?

jenangelcat
My first didn't grow past 7 weeks but I didn't start miscarrying until 14 weeks after our first attempt to find a heartbeat. It took a month to complete after that.
cjzimmer1
I had one that never developed past 6 weeks. We didn't discover it until 10+ weeks. I was still vomitting daily so clearly my body had no clue baby was no longer there. So that was 4+ weeks, based on how severe my symptoms still were at that point, I'm guessing it would have been at least a couple of more weeks before I would have miscarried. While I would have preferred to go naturally, I couldn't handle being sick for who knows how long when it really served no purpose. I do know my D&C was only about 3 hours start to finish. Sorry you are having to deal with this. It's such a sucky place to be.
jrn
:grouphug: Mine stopped developing around the 7 week mark but I didn't miscarry until week 11.
newlifemom
I've had it vary a lot. The drug can't be too expensive as you only get a couple of pills. However, that drug made me pretty sick and I still didn't complete the miss and had to have the D&C on top of it. The waiting about did me in the last time. I'm so very sorry. butterflymommy
Thanks ladies. This is really dreadful and I'm so, so sorry you went through this too. Still waiting & nothing happening. I doubt I'll go naturally before my appointment. I had the d&c for a 17 weeks loss and really didn't have much choice, I had a raging fever and was not "delivering" even after a month... I can't bear the thought of being in the L&D floor and then the recovery ward with all the post partum women. They first put the post partum women in one general room before putting them in double rooms and that's where they put me for an hour post d&c. Fro my d&c and one of my ectopics I was in the surgical ward. I was appreciative. Is there a midwife that can give you herbs or something? I wouldn't deal with cytotec, I've heard horror stories. So sorry for your loss.

When I had mine, it was through outpatient surgery. I never saw a pregnant person or baby the whole time I was there. They have "private" (separated by curtains on 3 sides) recovery rooms and the nurse would just poke her head in from the open side. They even brought light food (juice, toast, cracker etc) The only thing I can think of is because you were further along if there is more risk of complications that might require more monitoring and so they did it in a different part of the hospital, otherwise your hospital seriously needs to improve it's patient care. It depends on how far along you are and if there are complications. I have had to be in L&D a couple of times in various hospitals for procedures. They kept me separate from the others. I remember one time after ds was born that a woman had had a stillbirth and the dr asked me to visit her as I had been there before. [2nd trimester loss. I think hers was an early third trimester loss] Anyway, she was in her own room at the very end of postpartum. As for the recovery room. I don't remember there ever being babies in there, even when I had just given birth. The recovery rooms were for surgical recoveries and the babies were not allowed in there. I wish I had better things to tell you. For me, the worst was when I had to go to a clinic that specialized in other types of women's health. I was so very devastated at losing yet another baby and at 5 months no less, [for some reason this one was supposed to be a keeper, crazy I know] and being angry b/c it wasn't my decision. It just didn't seem fair. Anyway, all I can say is I'm sorry, it sucks [really there is no other word imo] and I wish there were an easy magical way for it to go away. There just isn't sometimes. If you don't mind, I will pray for you and for as easy a passing as possible. :grouphug:
LMD
So sorry for your loss butterflymommy. Both my mmc were discovered around 13 weeks, stopped growing around 8-9 weeks. They were discovered when I started bleeding at that gestation, so it took about 4 weeks for my body to recognize the loss and begin to expel. The first time I had a d&c, the second time I wanted to avoid the d&c so decided to use medicated pessaries (i can't remember the name, but does sound similar to cytotec when I googled that) and miscarry at home. After the pessaries I miscarried the bulk within 24 hours, it was mostly painless for me, just some minor cramps, I did pass some more clots about 3 weeks later (bleeding the whole time in-between) and very nearly needed a d&c anyway when a week later I had a scan which showed some blood clots still there. Dr's decided that they were small enough to be passed with the next menstrual cycle. All up I bled for about 10 weeks which was exhausting. I'm glad to have avoided the d&c. Overall the medicated m/c was an ok experience, as ok as that kind of experience can be anyway... I hope you are ok, I agree with PP, it just sucks... :grouphug:
lifesadream83
I am sooooo sorry for your loss. I lost 4 pregnancies after my first child. The first one is the only one that they had to "encourage" to come out. They used some type of pill that they insert into your vagina. It is extremely uncomfortable passing the baby this way. I honestly would not recommend it to anyone. BUT if you really would rather go that route you could mention this method the doctor should know what drug it was. I do not remember. My others just fell out sac and all so I can't help any other way. After my last miscarriage they did need to do a d&c because I had polyps that needed to be removed if I ever wanted more children. If you can find someone to watch your child for a day I was in and out in a few hours. DH had to do the driving but I was out cold and when I woke up it was over and quite frankly the recovery was easier then the pill method of the first. Just some thoughts. momto10blessings
mine was 6 weeks after the baby stopped growing. hugs. I have no idea if fasting would speed it up, but I would not do so. You need to take care of yourself to avoid complications. :grouphug: :grouphug:
butterflymommy
hi ladies. I went to the OB this morning and the sono showed no growth or HB. They said they don't give cytotec because of the side effects and urged me to have a d&c which I reluctantly did. Thanks for your prayers and advice! As horrible as this all has been I have to say my 17 week loss was much harder. I can only imagine how much worse it would be to lose a baby even beyond that gestation which I know some women here have. :grouphug:

butterflymommy
Thanks for the :grouphug: ladies. From some of the stories I read online it could take a couple months to expel everything naturally. So many people have d&cs these days, so who knows. And now for the first time in my life I'm terrified of conceiving again. I don't think I could take another loss.
Reya
I can't help. I've found out about most of my M/Cs when I started bleeding, and sometimes there was still a heartbeat. But I do recommend strenuously AGAINST a D&C. One d&C leaves you with a 10% of infertility, plus and increased chance of miscarriage and premature birth due to cervical incompetence. mathnmusic
:grouphug: Hugs! I had a D&C after I miscarried but nothing was coming forth...I'm glad I did so as not to prolong that difficult time. Afterward I had a healthy baby and delivered naturally without a problem. Hope you get rest and be good to yourself during this hard time.
