Cricket
A guy asked me to sew a backing onto a comforter. I had to cut down a sheet he provided and take out two seams on the boxed corners, stitch on the backing, resew the boxed corners and tack the backing to the top in nine areas. It took about 2 hours to do. He told me to charge him whatever I thought fair. I honestly have no idea. Do you know what people charge for alterations/sewing work in your area? Chris in VA
IDK, but I'd expect to pay $25-30 for this service. But I could be way off.
Caroline
At least $
Cricket
Oh wow. My dh said I should ask for $30. I was thinking more like $15 and thought he was way off.
lovinglife
I would say 30-40.
PentecostalMom
May be too late but I think $40 is fair. My MIL sews a lot and charges $25-$40 hourly depending on the detail of the work.
Guest inoubliable
I vote for $40. That seems fair.
Cricket
Thanks everyone! I asked for $30 and he just handed it over. I wanted it to be fair and also enough that I'm not bombarded with requests like this. Too often dh and I are asked by people in our line of work for free help and sometimes it's overwhelming!
