Chrysalis Academy
I'm getting my older dd some magazine subscriptions for Christmas, and I'd like to get one for dd6, too - she's just graduating from early readers into first chapter books (like Junie B. Jones) and I know she would love to get her own mag in the mail! She likes horses, insects, rocks & minerals, science in general. I've looked at the Cricket mags for youngers (Spider, etc.) and at Ranger Rick Jr., but wondered which ones y'all have tried and liked. Thank you! Ellesmere
When one of mine was a little younger, Click and Ladybug went over well, and now Spider is a hit. Ask looks good. Off the top of my head, there is also Highlights and Humpty Dumpty for that age, but I don't know about them.

morningxmorning
I like Scholastic classroom magazines. You can order individual home subscription but the price is higher. If you are ordering multiple titles you might be able to haggle a lower price.

SunnyDays
My son LOVED Appleseeds and Ask from the Cricket Magazine line when he was a little younger. He'll still pick them up and browse through old copies at the library when we visit. :)

But $$ is really tight this year - hence "schooly" stuff doing double duty as Christmas presents!! I decided to go with the $10 for Ranger Rick rather than almost $40 for some of the others . . . but they will be on my wish list for the future, for sure. DaffodilDreams
For that age/skill: Ranger Rick, Ladybug, Nat Geo Little Kids

Yes, the Cricket line is pricey!! :( I think the Ranger Rick would be a great one, especially at that price!! Oh, and Nat Geo Kids is great too, DS *still* likes that one. We often do school stuff as gifts and I'm lucky ours enjoy what they receive! Cricket magazines will sometimes have specials. I think they did one around Black Friday on a magazine website and the discount was much lower than I'd seen before. Maybe next year it will go on sale again! tammyw
We already get a lot of the Cricket magazines, but I just ordered Ranger Rick for my 6.5 DS. I bet he'll like it, based on the recommendations here.
