Just Kate
We will be attending a Mardi Gras themed Christmas party this weekend and I need help coming up with a food dish to bring. Any suggestions? Also, people usually dress according to the theme. What could the kids and I wear to this party???

maddykate
You could make a muffalata (probably just jacked up that spelling). I always think of New Orleans and mardi gras when I have that. For a desert, you could make beignets. Yummmmmm! I know there is a mix you can buy to make them. And you can serve them in a paper bag, filled with powdered sugar. (Or maybe not...I may be the only weird one that likes my beignets out of a paper sack. :). ) As for what to wear, I can't think of anything besides beads and crowns. Good luck. Sounds like fun! Hoggirl
Mardi Gras colors are purple, gold, and green, so I would go with that for wardrobe options. If you can find beads in those colors to wear that would be fun, too. Masks are common, too. I like the muffaleta idea, but I would probably do mini ones to have as appetizers. Make them on individual rolls. Or you could make pralines. What kind of dish are you supposed to take? I make gumbo every Christmas Eve. Etouffee (sp??) and jambalaya would also fit your theme, but they might be hard to serve. I mean, they are main dishes. A King cake is typically served FOR Mardi Gras. That would be an option as well.
KungFuPanda
http://cajundelights.blogspot.com/2011/02/decadent-cajun-desserts.html This link has a bourbon brownie recipe with praline icing. I made it because we had a Cajun thanksgiving theme this year. Now, I cheated and just used the Ghirardelli box mix and just added the 2 tbs of bourbon it called for (you can but a tiny bottle). The praline icing is TO DIE FOR. This dessert is a WIN and the bourbon taste is very subtle.
