treestarfae
This is my first stone and I'm getting a scan soon. So what's the kidney stone fun about? I have family member with osteo (stone connection?) Any experience with stones? It's being painful in my left side.
Faithr
I suffered with pain for 6 weeks this fall and then the pain mysteriously went away. I got an ultrasound that diagnosed my stone but I never got any further than that. May your pain end as easily as mine! It was dreadfully depressing while the pain was going on. It really hurt when i drove or sat. I lived on advil and spent about 4 hours a day flat on my back because for some reason that position felt better. My solution was to drink lots and lots of water often with lemon in it. And I upped my citrus intake. After a week of doing this (and spending an inordinate amount of time in the bathroom) my pain stopped.
ILiveInFlipFlops
There's not much to be done about it. If it's small, you pretty much just have to deal until you pass it. You can get painkillers, but they don't do a whole lot. If it's big, you can have the stone blasted (you'll be asleep, shockwaves directed at your side to break it up, you pass the fragments). If it's bigger than 5 mm, don't do what I did and think you know better than the urologist and will just go ahead and pass it on your own. Dealing with a stuck kidney stone is way, way more trouble and trauma than just having it blasted to begin with. Drink lots and lots and LOTS of water (2-3 liters a day), and like the PP said, add fresh lemon and other citrus juices into your diet if you can. Once the CT scan confirms the stone, you need to start using a strainer when you urinate. If you can catch the stone, it will be analyzed to see what it's made of. That will help you to understand how you need to modify your diet/self-care routine to try to avoid forming more stones. Most are calcium oxalate, but some are made of other materials and mean different things. Good luck, from someone who BTDT (and who has at least 3 more to pass  )!
