cin Posted December 2, 2012 Posted December 2, 2012 My 1 yr old daughter has read through the Blue Fairy Book and LOVED it. I have downloaded the others (all 12 or so) of them and was wondering if anybody knows....are they written at about the same level? I really don't have time to read them all as a preview, so I'm hoping somebody on here has some experience with them. Quote
nmoira Posted December 2, 2012 Posted December 2, 2012 More or less. A number of different translators/retellers were used, so occasionally the language of a story seems a bit out of place. Blue, Red, and Green are the most similar. Quote

I'll start her on red and green next. Quote

Gentlemommy Posted December 3, 2012 Posted December 3, 2012 I downloaded the entire collection of 420 stories (organized by book and alphabetically, with a live table of contents!) for only $2.99 on kindle! That's amazing to me. Just thought I'd share! Quote

It's been a while since I looked at these, but my recollection is that after red, blue, green and yellow, the stories got a little more obscure. Also depending on the edition you pick up, you may find some language that is Victorian and jangles modern ears. ETA: I can still remember walking into my elementary library and seeing a display of these in new hardback editions. The Blue Fairy Book was my first. I loved the stories and thought the illustrations were some of the prettiest I'd ever seen. Quote
