nancy in nj
Just curious.....does anybody here have a homeschooler (or know of any) who was accepted at Emory University in Atlanta? My dd really likes this school and has already applied. A message on one of the homeschool loops got me thinking that I don't actually recall any discussion about this school on the WTM boards...especially the where everyone applied/got accepted threads. Thanks! Nancy
creekland
Middle son was briefly interested in Emory and would have stayed interested except that they required 3 subject tests from homeschoolers and none of his other schools required any. He didn't feel like taking 3 tests for one school. I can't say I blame him. Had we been on a plan where he'd taken SAT II tests he probably would have considered them as well as his other schools. As far as I can tell, they are a very good school. He was so turned off he didn't even want to visit when we were right in the area... so we didn't. If your dd likes the school and it's affordable, I'd definitely give it high consideration. Their reputation is good (except for cooking the books with their reported scores, but that doesn't affect their academics).
Muttichen
Two of my daughters were accepted at Emory and my oldest got a full scholarship. She loved the school and would definitely have gone there had she not also gotten into Harvard. I know at least one other homeschooler who went to Emory on a full scholarship. nancy in nj
Thank you! I am greatly relieved. I have been e-mailing with someone from the homeschool to college loop who had me a bit worried as she also had never come across a homeschooler admitted to Emory. I'm glad to know that she has a chance at her dream school--her stat's are very competitive so at least she will have a fair chance!
