We thought about participating in Disney's Homeschool Days last year and I explored their website which showed many homeschool classes offered over about a two or three week period. We did not attend, but are starting to think about our next trip and I just did a search on hs days. I could only find a single event on Jan. 25. Am I missing something? Is there another website? Are there different types of "hs days?" What are the individual education classes I saw listed today?

As a side note: Thank-you to the WTM member who answered questions about WDW hs days last year. I saved your pm, but it appears the info. was lost in the forum update.

We did Disney Homeschool Days a few years ago. There is actually one class on one day that is officially a "homeschool day" class, but there are several other classes that are available too on the days surrounding the actual "homeschool day". They were an additional expense (the designated homeschool class price is included with your discounted ticket). We actually did one of the additional classes and skipped the one on the homeschool day because the kids wanted a science class. I stayed with the youngest child (too young at the time), but my dh said the class was very well done and the kids really enjoyed it. They got to go behind the scenes on a couple of rides which was very cool to them!

Oh, and you can do the individual education classes too anytime they are offered and get the discounted tickets (one is included in the price of your ticket). Tickets aren't quite as cheap as during homeschool days, but they are still very discounted.

The Disney powers that be are changing the Y.E.S. program drastically for 2013. Parents will no longer get the discount for regular YES participation, etc.....

My guess is that this is part of the change......HS days include only ONE option.

What do you mean by this? Parents will have to pay full price?

We did the YES program in 2011 and didn't even attend any of the classes.

That is what I have read. If you go online to price the tickets, it only allows you to purchase the reduced-price tickets for the students enrolled in the classes.

Yes, essentially. But not with Homeschool Days, only Individual Enrollment. Parents still receive the deeply discounted tickets for HS days. It is Jan 25, at DHS. We are going and are so excited!

I'm confused. I thought homeschool days was a several month thing? Every time I have looked on the YES website it has had many, many dates available.

Those are Y.E.S. Individual Enrollment classes you are seeing. If you do HS Days you can add on classes through IE but HS Days is just the one-time event. If you don't sign up for HS Days (and go during the time period those tickets are valid), then you can't get the great discounts for those in your party not taking an IE class.

My family is going for HS days so we all get the big discount. If we were just doing IE classes, only my DD would get the deeply discounted tickets. That is the big change. IE classes no longer equal deep discounts for non-students.

I hope that helps clear things up.

My understanding is that they are now implementing a plan where they will charge everyone full price (to your CC) if you don't attend the class.

The program was designed to accommodate students learning something while there. They have a limited number of spaces and when everyone signs up, and the then the class becomes full, it is frustrating when most of the people don't show up and that space could have been occupied by someone who really wanted to attend the class.

But, yes, the individual enrollment program now ONLY gives discounts to the kids.

We went for HS days and did attend the mandatory class. I was disappointed in it though. It was dry. I really expected Disney to do a better job with their class. I know it was free but it wouldn't have taken much to make it better than it was.

My husband is going to be so sad. He is a huge Disney fan and has been slowly converting the children, but I'm not big on Disney. He has a timeshare from before we got married (when he was living the good life! ) that has been at the same time of year as some of the homeschool days. It was his best chance of convincing me to take our family on a vacation every couple years. He'll have to find a new plan of attack.

The bargain is still good for Homeschool Days. You aren't off the hook yet. LOL

I wanted to remind everyone that January is summer vacation for the southern hemisphere. We attended the homeschool days 2 years ago. I believe the entire nation of Brazil was at Hollywood Studios the day we were there. There were TONS of tour groups. We thought it would be a less crowded time, but it was one of the most we'd ever been to, and we've been 9 times.

If you can only afford to go with the discount it will probably be worth it. I would try to invest in the Park Hopper option. If one park if very crowded, you might could switch over to another.

When I am looking at the FAQ section of the site, it talks about the student cost and doesn't specify what it is for parents. (And yes, I'm looking at the homeschool day on January 25 for reference).

Please tell me they haven't changed the cost for parents? Is there anyone here who has actually purchased them this new way and can say for sure that the parent cost is the same as the cost of the student?

I went to the site, chose Walt Disneyworld and home school days and it brought up specific information. I had to click on the question mark and then "expand program information", but then it showed a ticket price list on the right just below.

I bought tickets for January (HS Day) and we all got the lower prices. Hope that helps.
