FairProspects
Unfortunately the discount does not apply to Kidspiration, but if you have an older student this is an amazing deal on the Inspiration concept mapping/outlining software. I'm actually considering purchasing it even though we won't use it for a couple of years yet.

DyslexicParent
Has anybody in Canada been able to get the 50% discount? The Canadian site's price is $69 instead of $29.50! :crying:
Halcyon
The app for the Ipad looks amazing. I bet my 10 year old would find it beneficial when doing outlines for both WWS and History. I am strongly considering getting it. I love how it converts your mind map into an outline. Great for visual learners.

Heathermomster
Ok, now I'm confused. On the app page in iTunes it says it requires Inspiration to be on your desktop. So is that saying if you want to haul the maps in and edit them more on your computer, then you need the software? (duh) But surely the app works as a standalone, right? And you could maybe export as a pdf? So why are the reviewers saying it doesn't allow you to send the ipad app maps into your desktop version, if the iTunes page is saying to have inspiration on your desktop? I'm just trying to figure out if we'd still want it on the desktop or just make do with the app. Try the freebie app. If you like, make a test file and email the file to me. I can open it with my software and tell you whether the app and desktop sw is compatible.

Heathermomster
I think it must go on sale often as I purchased the sw at a reduced price a couple months ago. We have started to use it with more frequency and DS likes it quite a bit. He was reluctant at first but seems to appreciate the ease of it now. Heathermomster
:) :) Gotta love those 1st born teenagers... When DS first looked at the sw, he thought it was useless too and said as much. The thing is, he can outline a text with pencil and paper, but it's difficult. Story webs work so much better for him and he's figuring that out and seeing a need for the sw. DS has started to use Inspiration for outlining history and science. Typing into the web format helps DS organize thoughts and better see how information relates. Once the web is completed, he exports the file to a word document and modifies the outline. We have not yet exploited the full capabilities of the sw. If the IPAD app enables you to export docs to a usable word file, I think for $10, the app would be worth it. You can use the freebie app first, though I notice that it won't allow you to delete bubbles. Did I answer your question?

Heathermomster
Ok,..I downloaded the freebie app, which limits you to 5 maps. Contrary to what was stated on the reviews page, you can delete bubbles. Simply tap the bubble you want to get rid of and hit the trashcan icon in the upper right hand corner. DS and I briefly played around and discovered that the map can only be exported as either a PDF or an Inspiration Maps doc...The outline alone can be exported as a text, PDF, or Inspiration file. The app allows you to either print from your IPAD or email the text of the outline within the email message or send as an attached PDF/Inspiration file. On your desktop, this would allow you to cut and paste the outline from the email and transfer to a word file. The interface on the IPAD is awesome. Moving objects around with just your finger is nice. You could get by using the app alone.

Heathermomster
Ahh, that makes sense. So then as long as you don't want their presentation options or the word processor part, you could in theory make do with just the app... Yes..There are no bells and whistles. The app comes with the basic map and outline. From the outline view, you can send the outline via email. Using the email text option, the outline will appear inside the written portion of the email's text. The outline doesn't appear to be an appended text file. By cutting and pasting from within the email, you can transfer the outline to a word doc...clear as mud?

calledtobehome
I was just following this thread but wanted to let everyone know that Kidspiration is also on sale.
DyslexicParent
Have any non-US residents tried to download the software on sale? A Canadian site only has the old Inspiration 8 and rips off people for $109!
