LarlaB
How can I make it special? Of course, it IS special because we fly in late Christmas Eve to be w/ my parents/family this year....and my kiddos are excited. But that also means breaking w/ all of our traditions. We arrive so late that I fear all decent grocery stores will be closed....so there's no way to pick up the special breakfast goodies.... (we usually do cinnamon rolls and bacon and slowly open stockings....) I'm planning to taking kids stocking with us- so that's something, just not sure what else I could do. Any ideas? :001_cool:

HomeschoolMamaOfTwo
Do you have any provisions in the room like a microwave or anything?
LarlaB
Do you have any provisions in the room like a microwave or anything? Yes- microwave and minifridge....and the hotel includes free breakfast as well (which we will do every morning). I'd be happy with Costco pre-cooked bacon and their cinnamon rolls- just have no idea of how to get them, other than packing them in my suitcase....and, er, that feels a tad extreme! LOL
Impish
No real ideas, but I'll find out if MIL ever announces she's coming

LOL Not at all extreme, its something every family with food allergies does which is pretty common these days. Only ONCE in the past 12 years have I not packed food to go with us and thats because we were on an all expense paid trip to Disneyland which is awesome and well known for dealing with food allergies. Just pack a seperate bag for food because its a mess if it breaks open on your clothes. Just an FYI, you can take ice chests on airplanes:)
2_girls_mommy
I think mine would be so excited about being in a hotel and it being Christmas that they would be happy to go out to eat The whole being away from home can be an adventure and would be exciting. Mine would want to do it after the stockings of course though :)
Farrar
Will you be going to your family's house just after doing stockings? If so, I'd bite the bullet and pack special muffins or something, have the stockings and then not worry about anything else. The rest of the day will be memorable. If you'll be there longer, then I'd look into what restaurants are open for breakfast, maybe bring a cardboard tree or something? Maybe load your music player of choice with special music, or things like that.
Catwoman
Call the hotel and ask what they serve for breakfast. I assume they will have something like cinnamon rolls or muffins that you could bring back to your room with you, so you could still do your stocking tradition. (I would also bet they'd have no problem with you taking a plateful of bacon back to the room, either... and because it'll be Christmas, I'm sure they will be even more accommodating than usual.) milovany
We've done it! I took Christmas lights and set them up after the kids were asleep. Set out the stockings on the table. It was fun when they woke up in the morning. We were at Embassy Suites which has a full cooked-to-order breakfast so that was special enough that I didn't have to worry about that (can the grandparents bring some special treats to the hotel for you to pick up when you get there?). Have a good time!
vonfirmath
A couple of years ago, we were drving on Christmas. Woke up in El Paso Christmas morning. I had one gift for DS to open that morning. we ate breakfast at the hotel and got on the road. We did our Christmas traditions on dec 25th eve and woke up Dec 26th and did Christmas then (at our destination) So I guess we just moved Christmas day. Carrie12345
My parents and sisters often stay at Embassy Suites during Christmas. When they do, lights go in the window, and my aunt provides a table top tree that sits on top of the console TV. Christmas music is played through the laptop.
