Jean in Newcastle Posted November 25, 2012 Posted November 25, 2012 Hi everyone. It is Make-Your-Own-Pizza tonight. I'll supply the crusts, both gluten free and regular. You bring your favorite toppings with enough to share. Are you going to have any kind of a Christmas (or winter) break? We had one week off last week, will have 2 weeks of school and then will have 3 weeks off in December. I've never taken so much time off like this! (I feel decadent.) Today's random question: What is your favorite Christmas carol? Mine is "Bring a Torch, Jeanette Isabella" Quote
Chris in VA Posted November 25, 2012 Posted November 25, 2012 Oh, I love that carol! We sang it in very-early elementary school. What a nice memory. Favorite toppings? I like veggies--gr pep, onion, and mushroom. I have to work Christmas Eve, but took off the rest of the week. Dd (ps) gets that week off, too. I like O Holy Night, when it's sung by someone with a great voice (a man, preferably). To sing, I think I like Hark the Herald Angels Sing, and God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen. (Funny story--when I was quite small, I asked my mom how to spell Herald, because I was making a card for Christmas. She didn't know what I was doing, and told me, H-a-r-o-l-d, so that's what went on the card. I think she still has it... :D ) Quote
Karen in CO Posted November 25, 2012 Posted November 25, 2012 We're taking off between 2 and 3 weeks for Christmas. We had a week off for Thanksgiving, then we'll have about 3 weeks of school before we're off until the second week of January. My ds is coming home for Christmas so we'll take off. I'm even taking vaction so I enjoy him. One of my favorite Christmas songs is "I want a Hippopotamus for Christmas." I also enjoy "The Twelve Days of Christmas" and "Deck the Halls". I just love Christmas songs in general. Quote
Chelle in MO Posted November 26, 2012 Posted November 26, 2012 We just got home from our 2nd Thanksgiving, so I'll pass on the pizza. :001_smile: We'll probably take off about a week and a half at Christmas. Besides that, we'll have some time off when my sister and niece are here in mid-Dec. and when my brother visits the week before Christmas. I love the song you chose! Mine would probably be "What Child Is This?" Chris, someone gave us an angel when we were first married, and we named him Harold. We were so original! ;) Quote
Impish Posted November 26, 2012 Posted November 26, 2012 W/the move and everything, I don't think we'll take a break until this baby is born :tongue_smilie: We love 'I Want A Hippopotamus For Chirstmas' and "Feliz Navidad" here. Silent Night always gives me chills. Quote
chepyl Posted November 26, 2012 Posted November 26, 2012 W/the move and everything, I don't think we'll take a break until this baby is born :tongue_smilie: We love 'I Want A Hippopotamus For Chirstmas' and "Feliz Navidad" here. I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas is one of my favorites too!! It was written for our zoo :) I LOVE it!!! I like pepperoni, supreme, or veggie with olive oil and garlic salt brushed on the crust. We will take 3-4 weeks off for Christmas, New Year, and two weeks of musicals. I may try to school the second week of shows, at least partial. We may also do history and some science through the break. Definitely some home ec....lots of baking! Quote
Robin M Posted November 26, 2012 Posted November 26, 2012 Thank you for the pizza. Supplying mushrooms, onions and green peppers. So Yummy! We are taking off for two weeks from December 24th. Just had this last week off so have something to look forward too and will hopefully make the next 4 weeks go quickly. This time of year is just harder to concentrate on school stuff. My favorite christmas carol is Silent Night. Quote
Impish Posted November 26, 2012 Posted November 26, 2012 One of the coolest things I ever saw was at the school my eldest attended, there was a teacher who, every year, taught his class to sign Silent Night in the Christmas concert. Most. Awesome. Thing. Ever. In. A. School. Concert. Quote
KrissiK Posted November 26, 2012 Posted November 26, 2012 Well, I'm working on kicking a sinus infection without going to the doctor, I have a three-year-old who's picking up her sibling's bad language habits (no, not cussing, but rather calling people "stupid" and saying "shut up!"), a 9 year old who's bullying his younger brother and I'm trying to get school together for the next 4 weeks. And arrange babysitting for various and sundry doctor's appointments, dentist appointments and dinners out. And on top of all that, I'm trying to learn to chill out and avoid my typical Christmas nervous breakdown. My favorite Christmas Carol is this obscure song I have on Leonard Bernstein's "The Joy of Christmas" called The Twelfth Night Song, and I just love it, but I've never heard it anywhere else. Quote
Jean in Newcastle Posted November 26, 2012 Author Posted November 26, 2012 I'm having fun listening to all of your favorite Christmas songs. :001_smile: Quote
nmoira Posted November 26, 2012 Posted November 26, 2012 Toppings: roasted garlic, sauteed onions Break: two weeks this year Christmas Carol: mmmmm... Coventry Carol, but none until two weeks before Christmas Quote
fraidycat Posted November 26, 2012 Posted November 26, 2012 Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree. We've been off all week and will be off again for about 3 weeks for Christmas/New Year's break. I've got 3 weeks to get as much done as possible so the kids have something to show off to the Grandparents when they come for a visit. :D Oh, and I'll bring some spinach and feta for the pizza. Robin M Posted November 26, 2012 Posted November 26, 2012 Anything by Trans Siberian Orchestra Oh yeah! I just discovered them last year. So good! Quote
