caitlinsmom
I am teaching a literature class in January using Anne of Green Gables. The class is for girls ages 10-12. Most of the girls can read at least grade level but I was told there are a few struggling readers. I am looking for an abridged version that will keep the interest of all the girls regardless of their reading abilities. Which abridged version would you recommend? nmoira
Is it possible to supplement with an audio version instead? It's on Librivox.
caitlinsmom
Is it possible to supplement with an audio version instead? It's on Librivox. I thought of this too and it may work. The rules for this co-op say no more than 1 hour of outside work can be required. From what I understand from other teachers is not expect more than 30 min max from most families. That's another reason I was leaning toward an abridged version.
wintermom
If it's the quantity of reading the full Anne of Green Gables that is the issue, I'd go with a shorter L.M. Montgomery book before an abridged version of Anne. "Story Girl" is an amazing book, for example. "Chronicles of Avonlea" is also nice, as it's got short stories, so those who read quickly could go at a faster pace.
LaxMom
I can't recommend an abridged version - just not familiar with any of them - but there is a free audio version produced by Lit2Go (via their website or iTunes) that is great. My kids have all enjoyed listening to Lorraine Montgomery reading it (she also reads Peter Pan, Little Women, and others).
